It always amazes me that a lot of poster will complain about this station or that station will use a syndicated morning show based in another market or use Voice tracking by someone based in another city because it DENIES LOCAL TALENT from working in this market. Yet they say nothing when a station BRINGS in someone from another MARKET as the NEW Morning Drive or Afternoon Drive Air Personality or the host of the Mid-Day Talk or Sports show. Couldn't those slots have been filled with Local Talent as well?
Ralph Bristol came here from Spartenburg, SC, Michael Del Giornio from Tulsa, Woody and Jim on the River came here from Kansas City (though it was 10 years ago), Mack on 97.1 came Toledo, OH and it seems that every morning jock both KDF and WSM-FM have had over the past several years have come from another market ( Ft. Wayne, IN, Dayton, OH, Davenport, IA, etc.) Isn't bringing someone in from another market DENYING LOCAL TALENT from working here in Nashville?
And as far as local talent, who is there another than Bobby Knight that people are clamoring for? From my understanding, Coyote McCloud is in his mid 60's and dealing with some Health Issues, Carl P. Mayfield has burned to many bridges in Nashville and no one is willing to deal with him and most of the others have either left town or have gotten jobs in other fields and aren't interested in returning back to the airwaves. And alot of the News Personalities are working for Metro News and Traffic (Ron Jordan, Jerry Menshack, Bob August, etc.).
As far as Voice tracking goes, Joe Elvis was VTing in both Chattanooga and Jackson, TN several years ago while still doing afternoons on 105.9 The Rock and Brian Sargent was doing some VTing for Mix 92.9's sister station in Knoxville a few years ago or so. Didn't that prevent those stations in those markets from HIRING LOCAL TALENT?
So what's the difference?
