Hello there Nashville!

When recently fooling around with my radio reciever, I was able to pick up 1510 WLAC! I was quite excited, and I always love to hear from other cities (any of you that have looked on other boards, you know what I mean).

Thanks for the great programming!

Regards from Texas,
CTL

You do realize you just thanked Clear Channel for great programming, right?

He is from Texas, you know. Already pre-conditioned to CC!

This CC bias is really stupid. You're telling me that the programming is somehow better with Infinity, Cox or Cumulus? Pul-ease!!!

I think NSSB and I meant the CC comments as a joke. Sort of. You are right
about none of the other companies being any better. I won't mention how
lame I think Citadel has gotten in the last two years, because
I think they really are the most unfocused (nationally, as well.)

Yes, it was in jest.

Seriously, though. It's actually quite remarkable he can pick up that signal in Dallas at night. I have trouble picking it up here in Nashville most of the time!

At night, it comes in clear as a bell in both Atlanta and Savannah, GA.

I could pick it up in Dallas in 1992 at night although what was at the time KOMA on 1520 came in better. Since the Sun didn't rize in Dallas until after 6 I could listen to their morning news and keep up with what was going on in Nashville.

I'm not picking on any radio companies but I wonder just what new great inovative programming he is hearing on WLAC at night?

I was in Orlando, FL over the Labor Day weekend and was able to pick it up without any trouble at night. WLAC has always had a strong, extended signal at night that can heard in a lot of the country. I had always heard the reason the UT Atheletic Department signed a ten year agreement in 1994 and recently renewed it with WLAC was because of the strength of their nighttime signal.
Edited by jwk1979 on 09/19/05 04:24 PM.

I don't really care who owns who. I was actually accused by the guys in Iowa because they saw that I talked about picking up WHO (Des Moines) and KOA (Denver). They said I was a CC undercover trying to help out the station. What they dont know is that I have been letting every city know about my picking up their stations, if I have.

You know, from what I have heard, Entercomm (owns WWL New Orleans) has had great programming. Other than that, radio is going down hill. (we dont have any Entercomm stations in Big D, and I guess yall dont either.)

WLAC has been known for their nighttime coverage area for at least 50 years or more. Both WLAC and WSM can be heard in just about every state east of the Rockies at night. Several musicians, such as Elvin Bishop in Tulsa, OK and Bob Seger in Ann Arbor, MI credit WLAC with exposing them to great R&B music in the 50's as being a major influence on them going into the music profession and on their song writing.

I always heard it was possible to pick up WLAC in Canada and 27 states.
Just think what a signal like that could do for 106.7 The Fans ratings.
Had to go there, didn't I? Another joke, btw.

Clear Channel has its problems, but save for Keymarket, they're the best owners WLAC has had in the past 20-plus years.

Actually 6pm-Midnight is their local programming block. 6-9 pm is Prime Time Sports which places a heavy emphasis on SEC Sports (especially in the final hour when the sun's down and the coverage expands), then Mark Christopher's half conservative/half libertarian show is from 9pm-Midnight). After that it's George Noory/Art Bell until 5am.

As to whether or not this is innovative programming, I'll leave that to the others.
______________
