WLAC SWAT Coverage

Very good coverage of the Tornado situation on WLAC. I am a weather enthusiast and listening to the internet feed. It is very interesting. When the EAS is activated it does not go over the net feed. After a few times they realized to stop talking while the EAS was activated and started talking between each other It was very fun to listen ot...great look behind the scenes. They were remarking to each other of some of the reports being given to them through statements by the NWS.
______________

Cumulus did a good job as well. Mix went with Channel 4 coverage.
Citadel --- did they have any real coverage? I know they were talking
sports when I was scanning around. Not sure about WKDF. Venus and
Buzz were normal as was 92Q and Jack, as far as I could tell.

Zone had some sports talk, but with a heavy mix of news via Jeremy Benefield and weather via channel 5.

I was scanning while driving home...about 5:45. 99.7 had Valentine and
Johnny B discussing the names of towns they hadn't heard of before.
104.5 had Willie thanking Jeremy for his work watching channel 5's radar.
Meanwhile, WLAC had a live meteorologist from The Weather Channel, and
their entire news team in-place (both in-studio and on-location)...
and CC simulcast the coverage on all 5 stations.

Yeah, I heard a little bit of The Zone's coverage, and Chris isn't lying. It seems like all they were doing was repeating what they saw on TV. If I were in that case, I'd turn on Channel 5's audio (they have the rights. i've heard them do it before) and discrep the spots. It's only the 7th of the month. You can make them up later. People's lives are at risk during this time, and I don't give half-a-damn about who the Titans will take in the draft when a tornado wipes out half of Gallatin, which--by the way--happens to be a certain station's city of license.
______________

Yes, you are correct sir. CC had the best coverage and are to be applauded for that. Kevin Wall and the team at CC did an outstanding job. Simucasting, on all five stations, reached more listeners that could have been in danger, a good decesion.
I am a Valentine fan, however the coverage on three cumulus stations was entertaining at a time when being entertained was not a priority.

CR ---

What are ya tryin' to do here, getta raise? CC was using it
as an opportunity to say WLAC, 1059 The Rock, The Big 98,
107.5 The River and 101 The Beat (<<<well, they screwed
the Beat stuff up alot, like they didn't know what it was.)
every three minutes. It was a photo-op. Not weather
coverage. Actually, they did a great job. And, even without
you!!! First time for everything.

I'd like to hear that myself.

Steve has always done great work. He's the glue that keeps the newsroom together.

I used to work with Steve at a small station here in Kentucky. He was a riot!

He used to walk through the station yelling "DAMMIT" in the only the way he could. If you know him, you know what I mean!

BTW, had to run the board during a slew of warnings and info swap here in the Ville last Friday night. I don't like to cast it as a great time, but those are the best moments to be in radio. You're doing what you're supposed to do.
