Just got a phone call from a friend that Tom Hammond, of Backyard Broadcasting's East Central Indiana Radio Group, has passed.
Services for Tom will be Friday Evening from 4-8 at Elm Ridge in Muncie.
Don't have all the exact details on anything else.
Tom was a top notch all the way.

This is a huge loss for Central Indiana. Tom did great work.
Prayers to his family and the Backyard family as well.

Tom Hammond was the ultimate broadcast professional. Unless you worked behind the scenes and saw him "in action," you had no idea how talented he was. He was an expert in preparing newscasts with succinct actualities. In a very brief newscast format, there would often be 4-5 voicers to report the days top stories. He was a tireless worker and worked by no time clock or schedule. If a fire or another major event happened "after hours" or in the middle of the night, he was on-scene interviewing emergency personnel. He was truly one of a kind. There will never be another Tom Hammond. Those of us who knew him and worked with him are totally inspired by his work. May he rest in peace, having turned off his police scanner for the last time. Tom, we love you and we miss you so much.

Tom Hammond will be missed in the Muncie/Anderson Market area i remember when the Magniseum Fire happened a few years ago here in anderson. who was on the scene for radio in east central Area. I Think even WIBC picked up reports from Tom on the Fire in anderson. He was a true Professional like the late Rod Brooks was for East Central Indiana high School Sports on a number of stations here in anderson.
