Have gotten very positive response so far to the programming changes. We launched an auction show 8-9 AM today and took 24 bids - great start. Stay tuned and thanks for the input.

Hello ok walters and all others. I'm loving 790 WLBE so much. I always love a good music station on AM. Plus I just got this awesome sangean pr-d9 and I can hear WLBE without any trouble in Altamonte. Please keep it up. This is defanatly one of my favorite stations right now.

I do work somewhere else during the day, so you will hear some pre-recorded shows.
As with launching a new format, there's always going to be some kinks to fix.
We have just discussed how we can tighten things up a little.
Hopefully, the change we will make will sound better today.

Thanks for all the changes and work; I think WLBE has been a diamond in the rough for years.
Also glad there is a webstream as I normally don't tune to 790 in and around downtown St. Petersburg and was surprised to hear that Radio Reloj is so dominant in the background and sometimes it becomes the dominant station and I'm talking middle of the day. (1100-2PM). I was expecting to maybe hear the 790 WNWS-south Miami in the background and instead it's a relatively strong Radio Reloj.
While in eastern Hernando county I did listen and liked the music mix and the tag lines ("my AM790, now available w/o a prescription).... between the sense of humor and music, it's great.

C'mon, WLBE...where did you get this "DJ Mo' guy? Amateurish doesn't begin to describe this wanna be radio jock. How about identifying the title and artist? How about time and temperature? All we get are tag lines like "It's the DJ Moe show" or some variance of that. Is that all this kid can say? I thought that WLBE, with it's new format and approach, wanted to sound as professional as possible. Instead you chose to air a no talent who has no idea do to a radio show. The radio station sounds like a station for beginners when this show is on. Very disappointing. This kid is so obnoxious it's hard to listen to. Wise up, WLBE and tell this guy to keep his day job.

DJ Mo, always remember that neither you or your show are bigger than any radio station, no matter how small the station may be. You need to be integrated with the station and format. If you are DJ Mo, then you need to say "This is DJ Mo on WLBE." This is not WLBE on the DJ Mo Show.
Common mistakes that amateurs and independent brokers make... Your Show is not a station within a station...
'Mo, congratulations landing an on-air position with WLBE. AM 790 has one of the best AM signals and can be heard throughout Central Florida. You are doing an excellent job and this is a great coup for you. I'm quite sure those who are being overly critical were far from "perfect" when they first began their respective radio careers. Continue practicing and you will become even better at your craft. Once again, congratulations, and I wish you the very best!

Bad advice, yes, but it shows that there's always a conflict inherent in these sorts of arrangements...

Wow - where do I start?
Orlando GM -not sure who you are but I appreciated your input. Callers may not matter in your situation as you are looking for ratings. Ratings don't matter as much to us as we do all local advertisers and no agency business, just like most stations not in big cities. The Orlando FM stations dominate the ratings - heck, FM stations dominate the ratings in most places, and few AM's outside of the biggest signals in the biggest cities can garner enough of a rating anymore to turn it into dollars anyway - agreed?
Misteroldie and Orlando GM - We are still in a learning curve here, but the input from our local listeners has been exactly the opposite of what you feel. I always remind myself that there is a reason that Baskin Robbins needs 31 flavors - because everyone doesn't like chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry. When I read your post, I thought of all of the on air styles I have heard and how many are loved and hated by equal numbers of people, yet are still very successful. The first one that comes to mind in this area is The Shot Doctor on 740. Splits the audience right down the middle but has been on for about 15 years on Clear Channel - that is like 1000 radio years when you work that long for CC.
We are working the sound over this weekend and should be improved for next week as far as tightness goes. There has been much to do in a short time but we are getting there. All of your comments - positive or negative - are appreciated and are taken into consideration. WLBE is on its way back and thanks for helping us get there - whether you like what you hear or not.

I personally wouldn't worry about whether Mo sounds major-market or not. I think he has the potential to get there someday. Here in the Pittsburgh area, a couple of suburban AM's have carved out a nice little niche for themselves with local guys who play "Pittsburgh oldies" ranging mostly back into the doo-wop era. None of the DJs sound like they came from major market stations, they sound very much much like the guy at the VFW oldies dance (which they are...). They have a nice little loyal following and it pays the bills.
Hi O.K....new to the forum. The music is great.....50s and early-mid 60s music has a wide appeal and no one else for the most part is playing it. Brokered shows at the same times during the week and on the weekends are a good way to make money for the station, as well as local religious and sports programming. In my opinion, as far as DJ Mo, I think he has great potential, but I too agree with earlier posts that the show should be live, and song titles, artists, time, temp, etc should be done. I for one do not care at all for voice tracking or drop-ins. It makes radio sound so un-personal with no local touch All the fun and personality of live radio is fast disappearing, especially on AM. I would like to see that fun brought back to WLBE, especially with a great music format, as well as maybe a live morning and afternoon drive time music show, and maybe moving Party Line up several hours. Just my 2 cents, otherwise I think a fine move in the right direction, with emphasis on local programming and no worries about ratings.
