Heard Al right some. Sound good on my Maduci tuner. requires playing with the antenna to get rid of noise, but deffinetly a listenable signal.
I didn't get the al right refferences i've heard. stil goin "Huh?" to that one.... unless of corse its all right with al right?
keep up the great work!

BTW i will say its really cool to hear somebody who comes on these boards and seaks suggestions and feadback from a forum such as this.
If this has happend before with any other station from any other PD, i wasn't around for it.
I'm not sure how high AM Stereo is on your list of things to do but that would be so cool to hear music in AM stereo.
I'm fairly certain Jeff Deck over at http://meduci.com
would be proud to showcase your station right on the home page too.

Last Thursday AM I heard WLBE with a good. listenable signal on my truck radio along US 19 going through Citrus County. The Party Line guy had a steady stream of callers and worked the phone well. Home town radio at its best.

However, today I was at home and was determined to listen to DJ Mo after several missed attempts. After a brief introduction at the top of the hour he played 4 songs in a row, straight into a PSA-SPOT-PSA break and back into music without a single word being spoken! No liners, no WLBE promos, no chatter about the platters ;D, no time/temp, otherwords no DJ Mo. So I guess I wasnt missing anything..........

What I have discovered traveling back and forth between St. Petersburg (near the bay-downtown) and n.e. Herando county reception wise is that during mid-day WLBE 790 comes in with a listenable signal on my car radio north of Hillsborough Ave (U.S. 92) on I-275;............. however during critical hours, the signal is listenable north of SR 52 in mid Pasco county as Radio Reloj starts booming in an hour or two before sunset.

N.E. Hernando county and the Webster area is in a null at night and WLBE can be heard underneath Radio Reloj.
-------------------
As far as the programming goes, I vowed about 2 years ago, NEVER EVER to listen to the Eagles "Hotel California" again; granted I did like it the first 50,000 times I heard it............. but listening last week, I broke my vow, since I knew there were so many good songs being played, so I suffered through "Hotel California" (now make that 50,001 times!) and I was rewarded by great music afterwards; I was afraid if I changed the dial, I might forget to come back to the great music. (Also afraid that OK Walters might do some type of Voo-doo hex on me! :) )

Back in St. Pete,
Radio Reloj is dominant during the day and at night is WAXY 790 South Miami and Radio Reloj battling it out.

I agree. You aren't missing anything. The DJ Mo "show" is just a lifeless, automated mess. Mr. Walters, please just expand your show to cover that timeslot and make your listeners happy. Your show is live and local! I wanted to support Mo but I just don't see the effort being put forth. If you want to know what's going to be on the Mo show tomorrow, just take notes today. It will be the same. I think the Mo show is when everyone at the station goes to lunch.

Thank you all for listening & for your input.
I have already gave my notice to stop producing the show after this Friday.
I love doing radio & the challenge of being on-air 5 days a week with a music format that isn't truly my style, but I now know my limits to how much I can handle (aka staying past 4am or even past sunrise to produce each show after work).

I agree with you all.
Had I have the time to put more effort into the show, you would hear more chatter & "life" as you call it.
But hey, at least I tried instead of wondering what could have been.
If doing radio gave me enough income to live off of, I wouldn't have 3 jobs (besides my radio shows) right now.
But that's not the case.
All of my radio experience has been "volunteer".
I stepped out of my comfort zone & sacrificed a social life & sleep just for this opportunity.
I had enough passion & determination to accept this challenge.
And I think you all should RESPECT that instead of dissing.

Alas, my sole effort will still be at 91.5FM WPRK in Orlando.
If you've missed that show for the past 8 years, you've totally missed the "life" of "DJ Mo" & what O.K. Walters has heard that prompted him to invite me to do a show for WLBE.

Again, thank you all for your input.
And a HUGE THANK YOU to O.K. Walters & a couple of you for believing in me from the beginning.
I highly respect a person who has the balls to actually bring in new talent, instead of the same.
I'll see you on the FM dial, where I have been HIGHLY RESPECTED & SUPPORTED by REAL "DJ Mo" fans for the past 8 years.

every time i try to tune into the webstream, it is dead-air.
the link points to this...
http://fss27.streamhoster.com/lv_gruvhipf1/broadcast1/playlist.m3u
should work.
since every time i open the file i get a chunklist in Winamp, I decided to do a little investagating.
first, if i look at the MP3 tab, it doesn't show that its anything like a shoutcast or AAC stream but rather shows its an Mp3 file instead.
so I open the chunklist.M3u file in notepad to see what I could see in there.
Here's what i found:
#EXTM3U
#EXT-X-VERSION:3
#EXT-X-STREAM-INF:pROGRAM-ID=1,BANDWIDTH=52622,CODECS="mp4a.40.34"
chunklist.m3u8?wowzasessionid=1685448173

I was looking to se if i could see an actual URL that pointed to something like a station stream. It doesn't appear to have anything.
AM i the only one with this problem ?

Yes I believe you are. Normally when you go to the website the streaming automatically starts. I just tried it and it worked fine.

www.my790am.com is the website

Thanks for listening.

New announcement - Uncle Russie has returned to the central Florida airwaves with his unique brand of oldies show. He will be on weekdays from 4-6 PM on WLBE 790. His first show was yesterday.

I would like to thank DJ Mo for his efforts on behalf of our station. Whether you liked him or not, I can assure you that the amount of time and effort he put into his show was impressive. In the end, there weren't enough hours in the day for him to make it work. Good guy, great work ethic, and solid future - thanks DJ Mo.

Also John --
Winamp can usually handle M3U files, but it won't in this case because it's a link to an MP4 format audio stream. WLBE streams using RTMP over a Wowza server, so a media player you may be able to use to play it on your machine would be VLC with some effort, but surely not Winamp or Windows Media Player. You need something that can handle either RTMP or HTTP Live Streaming (the mp4a chunks you noticed), another format Wowza supports for Apple mobile devices. Honestly the Flash Player object on the WLBE site should play the stream just fine as long as your system can handle it appropriately.

Sorry for opening up techie talk on this post. Hope this helps!

Is it me or does this station have really good audio? I love love this station. :) I can hear it well enough in Altamonte that is for sure. :) I can even hear it in east Orlando. This is on my sangean pr-d9. On car radios you can hear it without much trouble in Altamonte believe it or not. This station is my favorite station right now. I love hearing this music on AM.

Don't mean to harp on the station's web presence, but here is a new station website that is being discussed on the NYC board for being bold, simple, to-the-point, and intruducing a new station with an unmistakable message. It is the absolute best radio station web site that I have yet seen.

My website budget and the Cumulus Media website budget are a little different, as is the rest of the situation as well. A country station in NYC is an animal all by itself - I think they will do well.

My790am website is being restructured as we speak and I am also changing the automation system in the next ten days. I have been there 77 days today - I am peddling as fast as I can. Thanks for the input.

I understand, but the basic concept could be done on the cheap: simplicity and a strong emotional message.
As has been discussed, "Country for Life" implies a commitment to traditional values, not just a music genre.
My reaction to the web site was that even though I am not into country music at all, I was compelled to click on their "Listen" button, and were I in NYC, I would undoubtedly dedicate a preset to 94.7 for at least one week.

Byran,
First let me point out that I'm blind so prefer to use media players that aren't popup players, so i can control the volume since i use a screene reader and if i wanna hear it talking above my music, i gotta make sure the music is lower. Also, I am useing Windows XP and IE8. when i go to:
www.my790am.com
I click on the listen live link. it just tsits there. There is no flash object that i've found on the page.
once i clikc the listen live link, there's a listen now link. when i click that, it opens Winamp and tha'ts when the chunlist appears.
If i were to used VLC, what would i need to do to get it to work? does it have seprit volume control that you can change like Winamp has?
I can use Ninite.com to get VLC easy enough.

the cool thing about CBS and Clear channel and a lot of the links on radio-locator is that they open Winamp, so i can play the stream right from there. Winamp also uses independant volume control, so when i turn up and down the volume, it doesn't change the volume of my sound card..
Most of the sites that use flash to play streams, the buttens aren't labled, and if there are volume controls i cannot get to them.
Some players (such as found from the links on
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_programming_syndicated_by_Clear_Channel
I can easily get to the Premium Choice and once i hit play station on the page , the music isn't so loud that i can't hear my screene reader above it.
from the WLBE site, i see something that says clikc for desktop site (which makes me think that i may be looking at the mobile version) wel once i go there, there is no listen link at all.
I wonder if that could be my problem, too? after all, you cannot use flash on smartphones, can you?
Thanks for your help!
John

John,

I respect your situation. It's got to be a challenge trying to find something that works and yet provides convenience. Windows XP and IE8? First thing you should do is make sure your Flash player is updated by going to the Adobe website and checking on it. WLBE uses a flash object that should be easily supported by recent setups. Also realize that XP is a bit outdated at this time.

If you want to get VLC, and I think you should considering it can do what you're trying to accomplish and offers a similar design as to what you're used to with Winamp, I suggest you go to videolan.org and get it from there. Once you have VLC open, go to Open Network Stream and paste this in:

rtsp://fss27.streamhoster.com:1935/lv_gruvhipf1/broadcast1

That'll get you the stream. **Please continue to visit the my790am.com website and support this great local station -- don't just use the stream link!!**

As for smartphones, Android no longer supports Flash but you can load older versions of it on there in spite of this. IPhones don't use or need Flash to listen to WLBE. There's a different address that can be used to load the station stream on those phones, but it's not necessary to post here.

Also to avoid taking this thread into any further boredom for the other readers, if you have any followup on this just send me a Private Message and we can discuss further that way.

Hope this helps!

New automation rolling out this week. Should tighten things considerably - both the sound and the playlist.

Thanks to everyone who has helped me since this thread started. WLBE had its best revenue month in seven years in January, so the changes I implemented have had immediate positive affect. The positive response to the oldies format has been tremendous, and we now have Uncle Russie from 4-6 weekdays.

Once again, thanks for the help.

In 2013, I must give credit to anybody who can make any AM station profit!

Mr. Walters, I need someone to help me start a business. Wanna help? :D

cd

Byron,
Thanks! it works wonderfully. Now if only it had shortcut keys for the keyboard...
My flash is up to date. I should try firefox, but I think I'm gonna continue to use VLC for this station, anyway.
Walter, so what happend to Al Right ?
BTW, have you changed the processing any ihn the last 2 weeks? it sounds slightly more relaxed OTA.
Congradulations on making a profit. Would be interesting to see if WVLG adds some more older oldies as a competitive measure.
