WLBR

Has WLBR ever been 24 hours in their history? They've signed off at 1 AM for as long as I can remember. What predicated this earth shattering development? What could be next a (gulp!) website?????
 
Does this mean that the FM sister station, WQIC, will also be going 24 hours? Could this be the end of DXing 100.1 from 1:00 to 4:50?

WQIC must be operating 24 hours now also. I tuned them in this morning at 3AM.
 
Must be a very recent development because WQIC was off-the-air a few weeks ago at 2 a.m. Was there any logical reason to shut things down overnight for this long? Both stations have a license to be 24 hours, don't they? Was electricity in Lebanon that much more costly than just letting the automation run for 4 more hours? LOL ::) I wonder what programming WLBR is picking up overnight. I'll go check the website. Oh wait ..... LOL
 
The receptionist, who wasn't aware that WLBR was now 24 hours, did tell me they were doing Red Eye radio. I think that comes from FOX radio. And, in my opinion, it is garbage. WLBR only has one reason for me to listen, and that's the Phillies.

The receptionist didn't know if QIC was on 24 hours. What we need around here is an FM Traditional Country station. But, they might actually get listeners then.
 
I lived in the area until 1995. They were always 24 hours at that time. CB
 
I never remember them being 24 hours. They were a good small town MOR station back in the 60's. At night they were Top 40 until 11....then from 11-1 it was WiLBeR's Nightcap...with easy listening music. Thet had Al Shade's country show on Saturday morning from 9 to about Noon or 1....and I believe Weekday mornings 5-6 am. Another brokered program....The Mickey Haines show at 6 in the evening. WLBR-FM at 100.1 was 100 percent simulcasted. In 1974 the FM broke off with Drake Chanault's "Solid Gold". WLBR AM became an total AC at that time. I always remember the hours being 5am to 1am.

"Red Eye Radio" is actually a Cumulus product. There is a FOX News Channel overnight broadcast of the same name. They are not related.
 
Both were never a 24 hour station. I know I flipped past WQIC the other day and heard a familiar voice, that of Ed Coffey. He was just a guest on the morning show though, almost had me thinking of old wtpa.

The only time they were 24 hours was on New Years eve/day. That's it. The rumor is that they will have a web-site in the near future. WOW!

Red Eye Radio is very well done with a couple of very knowledgable hosts. Great pickup for LBR.

But it really looks bad when the receptionist doesn't know what's going on.
 
Never though I'd ever see Al Shade and Mickey Haines' name on this board. That was appointment radio for my Grandma back in the day. Mickey Haines on Dupya LBR

Well then, I will have to try it out. I heard the one from Fox, and I think it's horrible.

WLBR has been 24 hours Christmas and New Year's Eve ever since I can remember. I don't remember Al Shade being on in the morning. Till he went to WIOV, Ken Lightner was on in the morning. After he left, I believe Al Bruce became the morning man. In the later 60s and early 70s, Jon Thompson was the morning man. He was good. We can still hear his voice doing IDs. When he left, we had Greg Lyons since.

My dad told me that when WLBR first came on the air, they were a daytime only station. The studios were in downtown Lebanon at 8th & Cumberland. The transmitter and antenna was a on Hill Church Road.

Did you know that Lebanon Broadcasting was the original owner of channel 15. I remember seeing advertisements in old newspapers for WLBR Channel 15. They were housed at the current location. But, before channel 15 was there, WLEB-FM was there. I don't remember the frequency. There weren't too many radios with FM at that time, so solo FM stations didn't last long. So, WLEB-FM didn't last long. That made the building available for WLBR-TV 15.

I don't know when WLBR-FM got started. I think it was when they moved into their current location. It was also then that WLBR put up all those towers and acquired a 24 hour license, which they rarely used. I think, but I am not sure, that was 1956.
 
I thought it was interesting into the 1990's that Al & Jean Shade were on Sunday afternoons so the Sunday afternoon Phillies games were not carried because they were on although the Phillies ran in all other time slots. Guess you couldn't preempt "The Mother & Father of Country Music!" Loved his live commercials for a diner buffet in Myerstown where the tables had "plenty of elbow room"! lol
 
I had moved out of the area in 1996, however I remember a station "WUFM" that was top 40 back in the late 70s and 80s. Is this the same station you are referring to as WQIC?
 
WUFM switched to Top 40 from AC in late 1993 and became Q100 WQIC. Several years later they switched back to AC as Soft Rock 100.1
