WLCO 1530 Returns To Air Simulcasting WQUS 103.1 Classic Rock

Booming in during CH with 5 kW DA-D. Simulcasting FM with Classic Rock. Frequent mentions of "Lapeer County's US 103.1". The Chicago DXers might not be able to hear it with WJJG, unless they are in an area where they can be nulled out.

Last Evening, they were playing all VanHalen.

In my neck of the woods, WLCO is favored by the lower height E layer during CH, which doesn't favor WCKY. But in the vicinity of the WLCO transmitter, WCKY is well within the distances favored by WCKY. So we hear WLCO further North, much stronger than WCKY during earlier Presunset hours.At

Last Winter, WLCO was one of the first stations to be heard during CH. It's 5 kW and with a DA which favors the North. At 0 degrees true, it's 1040 mV/m at 1 km IDF in the Standard Pattern. That's equivalent to 13.6 kW referenced to 282 mV/m at 1 km at 1 km efficiency. It was often heard at solar noon to two hours past solar noon.

I've heard WLCO at my location a couple of times. Pre-sunrise. WCKY is noticably weaker around here when they go to their night pattern to protect KFBK. During summer that can be as late as 10:00pm CDT. WCKG is almost never an issue. WCKY typically blows them out during critical hours.
 
WLCO Skywave starts being heard about two hours before Sunset. It gets stronger by one hour before Sunset. Toward Sunset, WCKY gets stronger and takes over and you can just hear a heterodyne of about 2-3 Hz. Toward Sunset, there is another 1530 playing 1960s Oldies. Presumably, it's WLAK New Holstein, WI, with 350 watts nondirectional, another Chicago callsign recycler.
