WLER Flipped to Active Rock

Punched up WLER-Butler and was taken aback by a Billy Squire song. They've apparently flipped to what I'm guessing is an active-rock format, judging by what's up on the website. I always thought that small-town FM's were required by the radio gods to play only some type of non-threatening AC format? :D

The "non-threatening AC formats" are on their air in small markets so small-town businesses will buy ads, and then listen for their ads by playing the station at their place of business.

However, I think there are several small rock stations in the Punxsutawney/ DuBois region doing pretty well with rock formats, so who knows?

The live stream just had Britney Spears on?...2pm Saturday?...

The internet "feeds" of WLER, and its sister stations are NOT feeds of the stations, outside of certain times. They use 977 music. com feeds, an internet only music service. This practice never made sense to me at all.

Because a lot of satellite services don't allow you to re-stream their programming. I know they were using Tom Kent in the afternoons, not sure how much of the rest of the day was off the bird.

Well, it sure is cool having an aggressive rock station in the area. And if they can hack anything off DVE in northern Allegheny County, the better for everybody.

Not really. They might be trying to expand their sales base outside of beautiful downtown Butler into the Cranberry area, but if that doesn't happen I'm still sort of puzzled why they think this is a good idea.

Billy Squier is active rock? LOL

So far, I've heard everything from Foreigner to Iron Maiden to Foo Fighters to Led Zep to BonJovi to Tool to Journey...well, you get the picture. I'm thinking that perhaps an 80's AOR had a love child with an Active Rocker? I'm male and in my mid-40's; if I had not been over-exposed to every genre of AOR/Classic Rock over the last 30-yrs in the industry, I think this might actually appeal to me.

Just Kent and Billy Bush at night. That's it.

It's not an active rock format... that would include things like Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave, much harder in general. If you want to hear an Active Rock format check out Eagle 107.5 in Wheeling.

This was BonJovi, Three Doors Down, Kid Rock, Pearl Jam, G n' R, the new Springsteen song, Ozzy, Black Keys, Chili Peppers, and Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger".

Adult rock, or the ARRO (all Rock n' Roll oldies) format with some currents thrown in. It's all familiar mass-appeal stuff (which can't always be said for KVE's playlist), but it's sort of all over the place.
