WLER rocks better than DVE

I've been listening to 97.7 the last week and I find it much more enjoyable than DVE. I've heard several pleasant surprises played and I like how they occasionally play local bands. Too bad they aren't a full Pittsburgh signal. What are the opinions on 97.7? Does anybody have any word on how they are doing with the format?

WLER gets kudos on the Pittsburgh board! Wouldn't that that make (former owner) Larry Berg happy if he was still with us...oh, wait, he is!...doing Faces & Places on cable. O'Brien & Garry used to do a bit about getting hired by the owner of WHUD & WSON-FM in Hudson, Ohio. Always made me think of WBUT & WLER-FM in Butler. No disrespect to Larry Berg - he did weekends for a while on KDKA, and wouldn't it be a treat to have someone that professional as weekend fill-in on the Big K!

WLER is a great "geezer rock" station. If you're into hearing the same classic rock songs over and over with some newer ones sprinkled in, I guess it's great? ???

in my opinion, the only difference between WLER and WDVE is that WDVE has a better signal and WLER has less commercials. Again, this is the same old boring format that one can find thousands of online and commercial free in many cases.

But kudos to the Butler Media Group for catering to the steel mill over 40 crowd with this station. I'm sure its doing better than the Star 100.7 clone known as All Hitz 97.7 that came before it.

I think they changed formats because the staff and the clients reached the point where they just didn't like the current music. Small market radio, you program what your sponsors like.

WLER plays more than the Clarks. I have heard many local artists on the station. They even have a Grass Roots show on Sunday nights at 7.

As mentioned in earlier posts. It is a shame that the signal is not that strong. But I think they do a good job for what they have to work with. I'm sure they would get more attention with a stronger stick.

With all due respect, they are about on the level of WJPA.

They serve their local market well, but would not be competitive against the big boys.

Whaa, whaa, whaaaa

Yes I do enjoy listening to the same music over and over, it's called a passion for the good things in life.
(isn't that people do with iPods? listen to their favorite songs)
The key to happiness in life is to find the things you enjoy, that help you relax and take pleasure in them.
Running around willy-nilly always chasing for the next cool hippy something only leads to anxiety and stress.

By the way, "new music" isn't a status symbol, it doesn't prove intelligence nor does it denote some form of higher progressive being.
In middle age adults it's usually a sign of someone that can't settle or make a decision.

Sometimes local is just good enough.
