WLFE 102.3 St Albans

Heard a promo over this weekend that 102.3 will change formats Monday (the 29th) at 10:23 a.m.
Went to surf to WLFE's website and it takes you to ....

http://www.purerock102.com/

Just a 'coming soon' message, but I suppose you can draw your own conclusion of the new format???

Stay tuned

Joe

Has WLFE gone up to 25kw yet ??

Not yet. One of the things that needed to happen first was the move of WRGR Tupper Lake from 102.3 to 102.1, which just happened last week. With that out of the way, WLFE can begin moving on its power increase. (WRGR will apparently be able to increase to 25 kW on 102.1, too, but I haven't seen an application from them for that yet.)

Now if only WLFE went on 102.1 I would be happy... Still no rock for me in the kingdom..
Kiss from NH kills the 102.3 frequency here in the NEK VT.. I am glad I transferred to WCSU Danbury...
WCCC Rules!

I was aware of the WRGR having to move as well.. Well.. WLFE is now "Rock 102" looks like Burlington now has an "Active Rocker" and the stream is on as well.. Had to access the stream by going to "Champlainradio.com" and accessing the old WLFE site.. Didn't quite happen at "10:23" had to get thru an "Andy Williams Christmas Song first".. Going for a younger sound and crowd than Champ and Wizard..

Younger crowd? Just heard them segue from "Dude Looks Like A Lady" to "Blurry" to "Hard To Handle" (with unnecessarily music image sweepers between each song.) Are they going to play any currents?

It is an odd mix of music.  Yes, all "rock" but no real method to it.  Maybe that is what they are going for and I understand it is their first day so I am sure some adjustments will be made.  Some of the segues are a little train wreck-y (even though they are imaging between each song----some songs just sound odd before or after another song) and some of the songs are not really going to appeal to a "rocker."

Sick website, by the way. This station was in the works for two months, and they don't have a website ready. Shocker that Champlain Radio would screw that up.

I am surprised they went into the rock arena though with Wizard, Buzz, Champ and even Kool to a certain extent already there. They'll be fightin all those stations to get a 2 share. I would have gone in another direction like perhaps a hot a/c to go between Star and triple X. Always better to go after the female demos. Looks to me they are going after Buzz more than anyone else and that's not a big demo to sell in the market except for beer. men 18-34 isn't exactly a cash machine for advertisers. But like someone said before this is Northeast so what can one expect.

Ummm, since when?
Ask Spike TV, the WWE or most any Rock station that plays currents.
Maybe not in a market as miniscule as St. Albans, but advertisers nationally find 18-34 a good market.

18-34 M isn't much of a cash cow, I'd rather take the upper end of that demo and 25-54 M because they have more

Champlain tried Hot AC with Alice a few years ago and it didn't work. I wasn't in the market at the time so I can't comment on how well it was executed, but I can tell you that it isn't all that easy to peel listeners away from WEZF.

I also note that a lot of people here like to bag on Northeast/Champlain. My experience has been quite good. And I've been doing this for 32 years, so it's not like I'm some newbie. OK, things were better when I worked for CBS in San Francisco in the early 90's... but that was then. THAT version of CBS doesn't even exist anymore.

OHH YES IT CAN BE. it depends imho the talent you put on, the rate you charge, and lastly the playlist. if they have a big playlist AKA give the listeners what they want they will come advertise as well wherever you can show the people of burlington you care. I have talked to lots of bitchy people up a Jay peak who think the buzz used to be a lot better musically in the 90's I was not here in the 90's so I could tell you. I think their still pretty good. but who am I to Judge I was only competing a bit 1% lol... with them ::)

Alice was poorly executed and the signal from down south was marginal (though didn't they simulcast it on 103 for awhile?). Most importantly, the concept was just a tad "too cool for the room." WEZF has always left plenty of room for a solid conventional Hot AC in the Burlington market, but for whatever reason every operator with a decent signal has gone a different direction. What a glut of rockers! FWIW, I've always thought NEBC should do one of two things with WLFE: either ignore Burlington & Plattsburg altogether and focus on the beautiful, wealthy town they've got--St. Albans... or, use the stick to simulcast 104.7 and give WNCS the full-market coverage it has never really had.

But they've got their own unique way of doing things. So... welcome Rock 102.3 (or whatever they're calling it). Just what the market needs--another station for beers, bars & auto parts!
