WLFI-TV Lafayette whacked

All three were veteran employees, Chris Morrissey had logged 25 years at WLFI. I guess for now the news operation continues, stunted as it will be. Wouldn't be shocked if LIN pulled the plug and simulcased WISH, just using one guy with a camera as the "Lafayette Bureau"

With no other "Network Affiliate" in Lafayette does the WLFI local news and income from same justify a local television station?

When I lived there WLFI was the 800 lb guerilla. Evansville has 3 network affiliates and they are in sad shape, all of them.

Since WISH TV could easily make this North bureau or some other single camera single staff person office with video fed from Indy totally what impact would this have. 8 has been feeding the station from Indy for awhile now. Most may not know this. Local news was/is the only local part of what takes place.

Like the Star Muncie Edition. Local News in front, same stuff everywhere else.

Much easier to have all Master Control Operations for 2 station in once place.

Probably depends if the Lafayette local news makes LIN any money. They could simulcast WISH with cutaways for Lafayette spots (basically what they do anyway). It's more than just WLFI that's run out of WISH; WDTN, Dayton's master control is at WISH as well as several others.

They won't shut-down WLFI. While rinky-dink and often laughable, it provides a metropolitan area of approximately 200,000 people with a reliable source for local news, weather, sports, and information regarding the area’s largest employer Purdue University. LIN may sell, but it won't shut-down.

I wish they'd put a subchannel of WISH on either WNDY or WLFI.

That way those who live further from Indy could more easily get WISH TV.

(Ideally, a WNDY sub would allow those with bad VHF to still watch 8.)

As the holder of the affiliation they could just as easily designate WISH be carried on all the cable systems that carry other Indy stations as network affiliates. Lafayette has ABC and NBC from Indy now.

In essence the station was slimmed down years ago with the exception of sales and air staff. It is a full power station being operated as a satellite like the other LIN stations. The paper hasn't ever covered this part of the story.

Did the change and revenue drop that caused the change come about because of the out of town operation of the station or was it the economy.

Have to say that even their low power here is operated well.

I don't know if I would call our LIN station in Dayton a satellite, even with Master Control being in Indy. It is a different network, and they still have news, production and sales here. That doesn't excuse what happened at WLFI. When I worked there it was still owned by the Toledo blade.
