Re: WLFM ,

Too bad I can't hear them on my Insignia DTV converters via Ch. 61-2 (there's video but no audio). Bet they'd sound great in digital.

WLFM-LP does have significant signal to the North and Northwest of Chicago (while they are still directional). In the case of Rockford, note the Relative Field Values from about 300 to 330 degrees, which would be in the direction of Elgin, Schaumburg and Rockford, these are about .955 to .991, which means that almost all of the 3kW ERP is being radiated in those azimuths. No wonder the signal is so good in those directions!

WLFM-LP does have an application with the FCC to change their antenna to omnidirectional, however, the FCC has not acted on that application yet.

Until they decide to broadcast in digital, that won't happen. I was reading on this board in another thread that channels 5 & 6 might be eliminated to expand the FM band, and that part of the band would have to be digital. The link to the FCC article is at this link:http://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/ecfs2/document/view?id=7020143180

As for how far the station goes; I don't know about the video portion, but I've gotten the audio as far east as Portage Indiana. I don't know how far east it's actually supposed to go. I do remember getting them as far south as Lowell Indiana.

Re: WLFM ,

I live in Michigan City, Indiana on the Lakeshore and we can pick it up here just fine. 87.7 really travels.....

Re: WLFM ,

WLFM comes in pretty well here in Lake Geneva, WI. Signal strength is slightly less than stations such as: WLS-FM, WJMK, WLIT & WCFS. Most of the time it's even strong enough for my portable to get a stereo signal & the RDS to work.
