WLFP 1550

We also considered using the 1080 4 tower array in Hampton Township for even a higher power nighttime signal. They were open to us using the tower at night since 1080 is a daytimer. The height and location of each tower made the site less perfect for a directional array for 1550 which is the main reason for not using it.

[/quote] How Much power were you going to use from the 1080 Towers? Partimer How Much Power was 1080 using for the PSA? I Live in North Hills and it was Loud and Clear PSA and PSSA.

Wasn't much, maybe 25 watts I think.

Does The PA lottery have a form of KENO? Just do a "play by play" of the drawings. You would be surprised at the number of folks who play that long odds game, that would listen instead of hanging around a bar or convenience stores waiting for drawings.

First, no. Just on general principles.

Second, that would involve paying the state for the rights to do it.

If that's your answer just shut it off.

Keno was just a weird moment (I have them at times and sometimes my fingers hit send before I regain what little sanity I still have), but there is there off track horse racing betting? There are stations that have 2 or 3 hours of call in "swap and swap" which I personally can't stand but seem to have commercials. There are usually program "holes" in any market, the question is can a station make enough to survive while filling that hole?

After the drawings, what do they listen to for the other 23 hours and 58 minutes in a day?

This is from personal experience at Vegas: Keno has a "draw" about every 5 to 10 min. Just enough time for you to flush your money, sorry buy more tickets. $10 and 5 drawings is all it took for me to realize like golf it takes more patience than I will ever have.

The big question is whether a station at 1550 could ever draw 1,550 listeners.

YES! First off I apologize for digging up this really old thread. WZUM aired its first Woodland Hills Football game tonight on our mighty 4 watt signal. I was looking at the stats on our MP3 server and noticed the entire day showed 1414 connections. Add in the users on the Windows Media server and the over-the-air listeners, I think we broke the 1,550 listener goal! I wish I knew how many people were listening on each connection. Even if it were just one person, I'm okay with the numbers.

WZUM is still a baby two month old station so there is a lot of room to grow. It helps to see the audience grow.

From 10s of listeners to thousands of listeners! Time to take on DVE! (I'm not completely delusional. Just enjoying the moment.)

I was referring to listeners accessing the station via 1550 AM, not via the Internet.

I think it's a pretty good bet that in a market of almost two million people, more than 1,550 people are already listening to the new WZUM.

WKHB and WKFB run paid programming most of the time, particularly during the daytime hours, and before non-subscribers were dropped from the published ratings, both stations were showing with many multiples of 1,550.

WZUM also is a non-subscriber, so I guess I will never be able to prove my theory. Even so, 1,550 people is a pittance. I suspect WZUM is doing better.

Wow! You are hard to please. :) I do use your quotes for inspiration to do better than the previous versions of 1550.

I agree with cingram's post about WZUM already having more than 1550 listeners. I have been involved with 1550 during its WURP and WLFP days. I can report we have received more e-mail, US Mail, and phone calls in two months than we received prior to WZUM.
