WLHN Muncie

I noticed in my daily e-mail from the FCC stated that WLHN is applying to move from 990kHz to 1170kHz.

When I took a look at their FCC data, it showed several applications for a COL change to Arlington, Princeton, and Knightstown. Some apps are keeping the station on 990, others show it moving to 1170.

Does anyone know anything about this? It doesn't make sense to me. If these areas were more populated to justify a move, I could understand.

wow daily e mails from the fcc I just get pictures of kittens and e mails from some Nigerian Prince.

That being said I had no idea that wlhn was on the old werk freq

They lost the 90 acre tower site in the 90's. Station has been on STA's since then.

New Rulesallow City change if this is related to the loss of tower site. Minor Mod. New Rules allow any freq change as a minor mod.

The Arlington move was shortspaced to WONE. Knightstown is clear on 1170.

I think this is a new sports station. All golf all the time.

did what is now wgnr used to be wlhn ?

WGNR started as WLHN Stereo 98 in the mid 70s. The calls changed under Gary Todd's ownership to WXXP. The LHN calls landed at Elwood's 101.7 for a number of years before moving to 990 slot.

Why was the old "990 WERK" tower site trashed in the first place???

Old owners didn't want to mess with the array and had Tower Bill cut them down. Then donated the Am to a non profit.

Drove by the other day and the 90 acres is just a big field of weeds. Part of it is farmed now. Couldn't farm it before because of the copper.

Bummer....990 WERK was great in its day. Moving the WLHN calls from Anderson to the former W-bump and then over to 990 is equally absurd.

Owner who donated the station changed calls after the donation. Not much that could be done. That was when the WLHN calls were placed on 990.

Good ol' Tower Bill...

When KZ-105 bought WERK, Kirk Ray (GM of KZ) held a big meeting out on 3 at the WERK site. Went over the change, going to become Faith 99 (Christian Radio at WERK!). Roles. Responsiblities.

Everything went fine. A few polite, well-thought out questions were fielded by Kirk. The meeting was running out of steam.

"Any other questions?"

"YEAH! I GOT A QUESTION! WHEN THE HELL ARE WE GONNA GET A NEW MOWER BLADE SO I CAN CUT THE DAMN GRASS!!!???"

You had to just LOVE Tower Bill.

Tower Bill P was great to work with at WERK. He expected you to be a MAN and no less. He taught me how to climb the 6 towers, change the bulbs and paint them. I'll take a guyed tower over a self-supporter any day.

The old ground system was unstable and the Dayton null was really tough to hold.

I came across this board searching why WWFT dropped my favorite programs...great board. I used to live 1 mile from WERK.
