WLHV Signal Issue

I know WLHV’s transmitter is actually closer to Lake Taghkanic than Baird College in ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, but since Annadale is the city of license it must put a city grade signal into that town. It does not. Perhaps they are having transmitter problems , but for the second week in a row while traveling up 9G they sounded weak and choppy near the college and improves only slightly a bit further north before dropping off again. Perhaps heading east, which I do not WLHV might sound better, but riding up 9G the AM WHDD sounds better.
This is, my first time up north since last fall. I also noticed WCKL seems to have cleared up some modulation issues as they sound clearer, less garbled than they did last fall. However I could tell they were not transmitting at 1KW from their authorized site. The signal is rather weak even in Catskill. I guess they are still using the illegal long wire setup in the orchard behind their original towers at the temporary power the authorization which expired in February.

There was a post on here a while back by someone who worked at that station.
They stated that WLHV was signing on at half power.
Maybe they are still at that.

WCKL was somehow broadcasting on 103.7 FM around Hudson not that long ago.
I think that some days they still do.

Perhaps that is it. However the signal is so weak, not really covering their couture, let alone their COL Even at half power they should at least do that, just not as well.
Yes, WCKL is on 103.7 as well not much range though. It is said to be an illegal operation.

Concerning 103.7 in Catskill, there is in fact a translator licensed for that, W279AL. According to the FCC database, the translator is currently "licensed and silent" pending a move from west of the River along the Thruway, to a point east of Catskill. If they are back on regularly, however, they have not yet notified the commission. Their silent STA expires in March 2014.

Nothing, however, surrounding operation of WCKL would surprise me, either on 560 or on a translator.

That translator (W279AL) on 103.7 is licensed to North East Gospel Network, I do not know what that has to do with Brian Dodge who owns WCKL 560 AM Catskill which is what is heard on the 103.7 freq in this area where I live.
FCC records as of this moment don't mention anything about that silence issue, I know they may not be updated.
I know I'm pretty much repeating what you are saying (retrto) but that guy, Brian Dodge doesn't have any right to broadcast his AM station on anything other than 560 WCKL.
He should be held accountable for broadcasting an illegal or pirate radio station here.

See the link below on the FCC CDBS database. Click on "View Correspondence Folder" and then click on "Click to view imported letter". The letter is the FCC authorization for the station to be "licensed and silent." The letter is dated May 22, 2013 and refers to the station being silent since March 4, 2013.

As for Brian Dodge, I really know nothing about him other that what I've on this and other message boards. Sounds like pretty shady character, though.

Even considering the involvement of Dodge it is very odd that they would apply for a silent STA, all the while WCKL is using 103.7 to simulcast WCKL (I read the application). WCKL is on 103.7 illegally just like the rest of the operation. Dodge had a STA to operate at reduced at reduced power due to damage to the line feeding one of their towers. Not only does he no longer have access to this facility, but that STA expired last February. WCLK continues to broadcast at low power reportedly with an illegal long wire set up on an Apple Farm behind the original towers. And yet, he still continues to get away with it. Does the FCC not pay attention to tiny town operations?

Not exactly radio related, but I got a chuckle reading the fcc licensing link provided by rtetro where the address of the licensee is listed as Buskirk NY. For those who do not know (or care), Buskirk is located along St. Rte. 67 in northern Rensselaer County and is basically a crossroads. By stretching the imagination, Buskirk could be termed a small hamlet. LOL.

Yes there were some xmitter problems that week! All repaired adn the signal is strong again....
I pass through the area every weekend going up 9G. I do not leave 9G. Nothing has changed the signal is the same every weekend weak and somewhat choppy. Is this a dead spot for WLHV. It should not be as it is Licensed to ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON. Marshal have you been in the area and actually heard the station. Last weekend it was unlistenable. I would think they are too far away but WNYX is back on the air and may cause interference if WLHV signal if weak . It sounds more like a low powered translator than a full power radio station , when traveling up 9G ,passing Bard College and beyond.

Yes it appears to be interference from WNYX :(
Is WNYX on the air? I drove through the area on Sunday and they were off. I thought I would be hearing WMFU/WFMU relay since the new owners took over - but nothing.
