WLIB future uncertain (talks w/ Michaels are off for now)

From All Access:

ALL ACCESS hears that whatever INNER CITY BROADCASTING CO. does with Talk WLIB-A/NEW YORK once its lease to AIR AMERICA RADIO ends on AUGUST 31, it won't include leasing the time to RANDY MICHAELS, at least for now. MICHAELS has walked away from talks with ICBC, ALL ACCESS has learned, leaving the station's future programming in question.

AIR AMERICA announced recently that it had found alternate accomodations on ACCESS.1 Talk WWRL-A in the NEW YORK market, although the hours it will lease remain undisclosed.

I think WLIB Could air urban talk from the Radio One network. Rev. Al is one of their talk hosts.

Speculation on the other board is Oldies or Talk for WLIB.

I guess I should rather go with oldies, because I love oldies because WCBS-FM lost its oldies station last year. I hope WLIB needs another oldies station and maybe they should bring back Bob Shannon, Bill Brown, Don K Reed and a couple of jocks from the former CBS-FM that we used to love for years. OR maybe they should put a Scott Shannon's True Oldies Channel there. If Inner City will sell off, maybe ABC/Disney will take over to bring in another oldies station. Is that true?

If it's going to be programmed by Inner City, it would make sense to be something to be sold in combination with their FM, WBLS, such as talk including the Radio One lineup, or even a return to the caribbean music.

Since Inner City hasn't programmed the station since Air America started and was interested in leasing it to Michaels, it's likely they could lease it out to someone else, such as Radio One. Or they could time-broker it out to anyone with the cash, meaning foreign language programs, crackpot talk shows, infomercials, etc.

I think the oldies speculation on the other board is only wishful thinking.

The R1 format runs from 10:00 AM until 7:00 PM. They'd have to get a local morning show, and fill the nights/overnights (probably leased time?)
