WLIB Gospel "Black-lash"

RadioDailyNews:
In a shocking new development, WLIB-AM will turn from broadcasting Air America and will become a 24-hour gospel station as of September 1, 2006. “Get out of here! Oh no!” Harlem community activist Elombe Brath gasped when he was told the news. “That’s worse than what they had before!” (read more - NY Amsterdam News)

New York's Black newspaper, The Amsterdam News, reports WLIB's flip to Gospel (from its LMA with Air America Radio) is not going down well among at least some segments of the Black leadership or the Black community in New York. The article indicates many were expecting an Urban Talk format.

You must have missed this thread about WLIB's switch to gospel music:

Flinstone likes to syndicate news clippings and call it "posting".

Apparently, some people not only to bother to read linked articles before commenting, they don't even read the posts closely.
My post was about the negative reaction in the Black community to the Gospel format.

My post was about the negative reaction in the Black community to the Gospel format.

Which would have been an excellent follow-up contribution to the existing thread. As a post in the thread "UPDATE: No talk for WLIB - will be full-time gospel music", it would have been a pertinent and valuable contribution to an ongoing discussion.

But you preferred to see it as a new thread launch, so that your name would be prominently displayed next to it. I can understand why FightingIrish would take offense at someone launching a new thread about something that was merely a follow-up detail in the existing thread he launched earlier.

Do you understand the difference between adding a post to an existing thread, and starting a whole new thread?

Ah, another area in which you don't know what you're talking about.

Under the old Radio-Info, all posts could be seen at a glance and it was possible to see something like "Update." Under this thread it is not, so I started a new thread for a new story (reaction of the Black community - which, I see, you read about "someplace").

which, I see, you read about "someplace").

And yet, I didn't post that in a new thread, I posted it as a reply in the existing thread on that topic. Amazing. Even though you couldn't see all posts at a glance, you still saw my post in which I referred to the fact that some in the Black community weren't happy about all Gospel all the time.

How about that!

I guess this is your new thing to rant about: "Start a new thread with new information or keep an old thread running indefinitely?." Replacing "Progressive Talk or Liberal Talk?"

Fighting Irish:
RI rule of thumb: Usually after a thread hits 4 or 5 posts, it becomes mostly nonsense.

It is a waste of time to discuss anything with you. You have made it clear that as a matter of pride, you are unwilling to consider anyone else's viewpoint. Despite your name, you show little interest in talking about radio. Only nit-picking and "mischief." And since you are not the moderator of this board, your rulings on netiquette have zero standing. But thank you for sharing.

Yes, I saw your post in the other thread, in which you referred to my post but failed to provide proper attribution - or the full story.

Just a little clarification. That post was from an 11 page thread on the Philly board. I actually meant to say "4 or 5 pages", not "posts". By the time I went back to correct, the admins had locked the thread. And I wasn't referring to your post in general on that thread.

And the only time you've ripped on my name, Barney Rubble, is when you went off on some hateful rant about Catholicism being a 'cult' a few days back. Pretty classy, Wilma.

Other than that, I have no idea what the hell you're talking about, or why you're all of a sudden dragging me into your feces flinging fiesta.

I find it ironic that organization with a history of inquisitions, torture, genocide of "heretics," conversions by the sword, crusades, attempts to supress democratic governments and reforms, censorship of scientists and scholars, overt expressions of anti-Semitism, and child abuse should now claim persecution and ask for tolerance when it is criticized.

I thought your comment on the Philly board was valid and relevant, which is why I cited it.

Yeah, and I just did all of that last week myself! ::)

C'mon Betty, you're talking about stuff that mostly happened centuries ago. Painting people with such broad strokes is called 'bigotry'. And you're hateful attitude toward a group of perhaps a billion people is appalling. The stuff you posted is no different than what Mel Gibson said about Jews. It's truly disgusting, and has no place on Radio-Info.

Your latest sock puppet name, "Fred Flintstone" is appropriate in that you think like a Neanderthal. You should be ashamed of yourself. You're a pathetic, hateful loser. And you don't know a damned thing about radio.

One would think someone who takes the handle "Fighting Irish," would have a more compassionate attitude toward Palestinians who had their homes, property and freedom taken away by Zionist Jews. Just like the Irish were treated by the Brits (but that happened a long time ago, too, so maybe you say it's OK). I suppose if one belongs to a religious minority, whatever he does is beyond any criticism.

By the way, Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ," with it's sado-masochistic depiction of the crucifiction and its portrayal of the Jews as "Christ killers" is very much the Catholic Church view (and was based on church approved writings and doctrine).

You resort to cheap school yard taunts (apparently the best you can do) and apparently are unable to see the difference between comments on an institution and comments about individuals. "Fighting Irish" is an appropriate moniker for someone whose comments reflect a jock level intellect.

When the hell did I ever say anything about Palestinians? I never have.

Again, you like to paint with very broad strokes. You assume that people are only capable of groupthink. And 'cheap school yard taunts'? Oh, please! I was offended by what I saw as a xenophobic comment by you, and I called you on it. It was immature and hateful, and you should be ashamed of yourself. Take that nonsense to Stormfront, where they cater to that kind of negativity and hate.

It strikes me that Mr. Flintstone is displaying the kind of thinking that makes most news/talk radio what it is today -- boring. Regardless of whether his hateful expressions of misguided misinformation and nonsensical non-sequiteurs are typical of bigotry from the right or the left, they do illustrate the very worst in people, and the kind of mindset that far too much news/talk radio from either extreme of the spectrum seems to cater to.

Though, I must give the devil his due. Even the worst of the right wing extremist talk show hosts manage to veneer their antagonistic hatred with a layer of amusing entertainment or at least some skillful rhetoric. Alas, Mr. Flintsone lacks that capability. Though his opinions on the topics he talks about in here may reflect the bedrock of small minded hatred and bigotry, they make up for their lack of intellectual worthiness with a similar lack of excellent prose.

And Fred, one of the first things one learns in a$$hole school is to first insult a group someone else belongs to in order to insult the person directly, then hide behind the excuse that the object of your insult is "unable to see the difference between comments on an institution and comments about individuals." The thing is, that's a lesson from "Being an a$$hole 101". It's basic stuff. It's also about the best you can come up with.
