Saw a legal ID on WLNY "10/55" and the ID was "WLNY-TV Riverhead" and "WLIG-LD Mineola". What is LD? I did a Google search of the calls, and it is a low-power repeater? Anyway, it's kind of a "return" of the WLIG calls to Channel 55, kinda sorta... And why do they still use the "WLNY-TV" calls, shouldn't it be "WLNY-DT", in fact, didn't they move off of analog channel 55 years before the DTV conversion?

-LD is a digital LPTV. Most originate programming but some are indeed repeaters of other stations. Best I can tell WLIG-LD is supposed to be on channel 26. They do have a permit to move to channel 45 and it's possible that's been implemented. Of course PSIP may cause them to come up on some other channel on your TV. (the standard would require them to come up as either channel 54 -- their old analog channel -- or 55 -- the old analog channel of the station they relay, WLNY. Violations of the standard are not unheard-of.)

A few days before the DTV conversion, the FCC changed DTV stations callsigns. The digital stations received the same callsigns that used to be assigned to their analog companions. WLNY-DT was changed to WLNY-TV.

(stations could *choose* to keep the -DT suffix but they had to take action to notify the FCC they wished to do so. Most didn't.)

Yes, WLNY analog has been gone for a few years.
 
Translators map to their parent station's major channel number. To the best of my knowledge, WLNY's translators map to 55-1.

Wow, thanks for the info, especially the part about the "-TV" suffix as opposed to the "-DT" - I still see both in some stations' legal ID's.

FYI - the station is positioned as "10/55" due to its placement on Channel 10 on most cable systems.

I'm sure many stations haven't rebuilt their ID graphics yet. (and yes, a few stations *did* ask the FCC to let them keep the -DT suffix)

The FCC doesn't care what channel stations put on their ID graphics or announce aurally. The regulations apply only to the "major channel number" they transmit as part of their datastream -- this appears on your TV/converter box. (if you're using OTA reception) WLNY could put "Channels 1 and 2073" on their ID slide if they wanted to.
