Yeah, it would be cool to have WLIR stream the music, but in all
honesty, I doubt TMO will take this very serious as they have turned
their backs on the 'LIR fans 2x in a row now (Jan 9, 2004 and Sept 15
2005). If there is a stream, it will be jockless of course. Since TMO
wanted to save a few bucks and get rid of everyone at 98.5, 105.3,
and 107.1 why would they want to shell out a few bucks for an
internet only personality. I doubt they would have 'LIR afterhours,
since Andre is not there anymore I don't think they would have much
of an interest in adding the alternative dance format (whcih is a
shame cause I loved it and Andre was prolly one my fav. all time 'LIR
personalities).
I am probably one of the youngest people on this board, i'm only 21
so I was never able to experience Malibu/Luxe. I even missed out on
WDRE. I started listening to 'LIR in about 1997 (a year after they
returned to the WLIR call letters from WDRE) but from day one I was
hooked. Every weekend i looked forward to hearing Retro Fridays & The
Saturday Night Dance Party broadcast live from LUXE. It was the music
of 'LIR that was the soundtrack of my life for the past 8 years and
it got me into wanting to be a DJ and sparked my love for radio. I
was sad to see it re-locate out east last year but I was grateful
enough for the stream and return to the classic WLIR format then the
K-Rock duplicatred "BOX" format. Now a year later WLIR is gone for
good. I figured TMO should realize automated-jockless radio is a mistake. They have disgaraced theheritage that was the innovator, not ther immitator...WLIR. In all reality though, they are about business and doing what it takes to
save a few bucks. My question is why would they want to combat
satellite radio with such sh*ty weak signals anyhow?
RIP WLIR
