WLIT Playing DHT?

I was flipping through the dial at around 2:20, and I heard DHT's Listen to Your Heart (unplugged) on WLIT. Why would a Soft AC be playing a Dance song?
______________

I don't think there's anything wrong with a Mainstream AC playing "Listen To Your Heart" at all. In fact, the song is top 10 on the Mainstream AC chart (right up there with Michael Buble!). It's a remake of a 16 year old song consisting of piano, some strings and a vocal. That has "AC" written all over it. Now if they were playing the club mix version...that'd be a problem! :)

I've noticed that Jack FM has been playing the Roxette original a LOT lately.
Good call on their part...Just wish their audio was better!!! Bring back the 'JMK processing!!!

Love FM also plays the unplugged mix of DHT - Listen To Your Heart. Its slow so I don't see anything wrong with it.

Other songs that WLIT plays that make me go "Why are they playing this?":

Green Day - Boulevard Of Broken Dreams
Gwen Stefani - Rich Girl complete with Eve's rap
Lenny Kravitz - Lady

lots of harder edged golds as well
______________

AHH! That hurts. I used to own a Record Label that concentrated on Electronic music. We ha the chance to have DHT as an artist, but passed because we didn't have any money! I can't read this, it hurts. The fact that it got so big that its playing on LiteFM makes me want to Vomit! LOL Good for Robbins though. They really know how to push electronic music.

Exactly what I thought when I saw the headline - 'surely they're not playing the mix version' since WLIT does have a habit of being 'odd'! Even safe AC's in other markets are playing DHT's softer version, and as Java points out, why not. I think to classify WLIT as a 'Soft AC' would also be misrepresenting it.
______________

Since when is that a dance tune? It doesn't sound much different than the Original Roxette version.

LIT knows the song hits home with the ladies, and isn't that what the format is about anyway? It has nothing to do with being Hard or Soft. It's what appeals to the demo... not some pre-conceived notion of what the demo wants.

'LIT hasn't been a soft AC since AMFM took over and Phil Redo and Mark Edwards left. Even then they weren't as soft as they were as WLAK--but the fact that they weren't jingling, talking over intros or doing hard-edged sweepers made them sound soft.

I grew up listening to WLIT. I've known WLIT since 1989 when it was brand new. Throughout most of the 90s, the DJs did the vast majority of the talking. They didn't have liners or jingles most of the time, although there were some periods where they did. It was around 1999-2000 when they changed from "Light FM 93.9" to "93.9 Light FM" and later "Light Rock 93.9" when they started to talk over intros, have a voice guy, replace longtime airstaff (Mary Ann Meyers, Ken Southern, Megan Reed, etc) Ken Southern did evenings (I think until this time. For sure he did evenings) until around 2000 or so when Delilah was added. Around 2002-2003 when the station moved into its current studio the sound quality of the station went downhill. I don't know if anybody else notices it but there is a crapload of compression noise in the liners, jingles and some of the songs. 2003 and especially 2004 is when the station started in on its current harder edge.

Downstate in Decatur/Shelbyville IL our version of WLIT is WEJT -- Lite Rock 105-1 played DHT - THE DANCE VERSION! (Middle of the day) Haven't figured that one out yet!

Re: Try downstate Illinois! WEJT...

WEJT is Hot AC, although they use the "Lite Rock" name. Quite a few Hot AC stations play the dance version. Btw...Rick Dees also plays the dance version on his Hot AC Weekly Top 40.

:)

Unless the website hasn't been updated, they are still an AC station since they use the term Lite Rock. Most of today's AC stations sound more Hot than what they used to be. WLIT is an example of going the hot route. Since there's not another AC station, other than WILV, which is rhythmic AC, they're able to get away with going hot. I understand that AC has changed, but an AC station should not be so hot that it actually competes with a hot ac station, especially if a market has 2 hot ac station. But since WLIT still plays 70's music, which isn't in the hot ac format, which is 80's, 90's, & today, that's the only I see that allows them to get away with being called an AC station.
