WLIX out of the Woodwork

I have been wondering about the coincidence of the call sign. WLIX was a religious station at 540 AM from about 1979-1995. How is it that RadioX used the call letters WLIX-LP and now religious broadcasting comes back to WLIX?

Scotty was looking for a classic callsign. Originally it was to be WGLI-LP, but there is a WGLI-FM in Michigan. Most other options were in use elsewhere. WLIX was available and was chosen because it was a classic old callsign and because the station was to be branded Radio X.

The idea of religion was not even considered. The LPFM was going to either be oldies or alternative. I would have loved it to be the former and the timing would have been just as good with the passing of CBS-FM.

Mike's right...although at least one person involved with the station wanted the WXMN calls (ahem)...but they got taken right before Mr. Hart got his chance to reach into the big bowl of calls and pull something out.

Truth be told, he wanted to actually put the famous WVWA calls on his station in Ridge - some of the guys who created NINE talked him out of it...and they went to a Clear Channel station near Atlanta instead soon after the discussion. Oddly, the WVWA calls had NEVER been assigned anywhere (in the real world) until that. Go figure.

:D That would have been hillarious! Just drop the pound and you got "WVWA Ridge" ::)

:( My sister peeled her RadioX decal off her car's rear window today. :(
