I've noticed both WLKX and KQCL (both on 95.9) have completed their power increases and my god what a disaster it is. Both stations have city grade coverage into the north (WLKX) and south (KQCL) sides of the metro; WLKX and KQCL both have 6kW of power. The interference between the two is terrible... But WLKX asked for it in my opinion and here is why... WLKX has been an extremely cheap station ... at least under Milestone's ownership. KQCL is owned by Townsquare and to me, it sounds like KQCL has all the latest equipment in the rack room. With WLKX's crap processing and low bitrate Barix box feed vs. KQCL's direct feed and loud, clean processing; someone at WLKX should've realized they needed to up their game. WLKX is not very loud compared to others, and with less consistent modulation means more chances for the other station to beat you up, and the low bitrate feed isn't helping this case. WLKX gets beat up on the northern side of the metro a lot, it basically is a war zone up until you enter WLKX's protected coverage range. But KQCL is a different story, as soon as you enter the south end of the metro, they are consistently in, and there is almost no sign of WLKX. What my point is is that WLKX became more useless than it already was, and this "upgrade" was more of a downgrade for them. Meanwhile, KQCL got a huge coverage boost. For WLKX the first thing I'd say is to get rid of the lossy feed they use, and then work from there. It shouldn't be that hard, nor expensive, if I recall correctly, barix boxes can do a lossless feed, granted that may take more bandwidth... Take your eyes off 106.1 for a second and give WLKX the attention it needs for god sake. Does anyone else feel the same regarding this situation?
