WLNE- ABC6 looking really good!

I am the type of person who gives credit where credit is due.WLNE has never looked better.

Great anchors. I especially like this Allison girl. Her style reminds me of Karen Adams when she first started on WPRI.
Bringing Steve Cascione back was a positive thing too.
These new owners really have their crap together.I see them getting out of their decades old last place position before the end of the year.

As for WJAR I find them to be the least appealling to me now, where only a few years ago they were the team to watch. Now I'm bored with them.

The sad part about this whole thing is that as good as WLNE looks now, they are still very likely to remain a distant third. Newscasts are easy to change. Habits are not.

I too think ABC 6 is doing a great job, and I think their ratings are going to increase gradually so they may even become the #2 (or very close #3) newscast in a time period or tow by the end of the year. I personally think their newscasts are the best in the market. I would not be surprized for them to start weekend morning newscasts in the near future. And I've heard nothing yet as how their 4 PM newscast is doing. The Providence Journal never seems to release any local news ratings, even during the current sweeps period. Look at the Boston market - ch. 7 was the lowest rated newscast for many years; then by the late 90's they were the #1 or #2 rated newscast. So it can happen. Ch. 10 is the most boring - same old anchors and pompous attitude of being #1 for so long. Ch. 12 is pretty good as it has been.

Cool! Since WJAR moved out of downtown, I thought that it might be a competitive advantage for WLNE. I wish WLNE the best. They've been through a lot over the years. I'll bet that Steve Cascione could tell us a lot of stories and I've always thought that Steve was the best met in town! He's better than the mighty Ghiorse!

I agree. WLNE has improved. Jim Hummel and his reports about Providence Police Officers taking cars home.
And the chief not giving a crap. Was a topic of conversation for several days around the office. John Deluca
& Allison Alexander have good chemistry. And during the throw to weather during the 6pm newscast. The playful
busting of chops between John & Fred. Reminds me of how Doug White & Gary Ley used to bust each other up.
Especially during the 11pm newscast. Those were the days. Anyhoo, I think WLNE needs to tweek 4pm by adding
another anchor who has been on the air here in Rhode Island for many years. And I think Pat Mastors would work well
at 4pm. Will that happen? Probably not. On a side note. Former WLNE reporter Josie Guarino is now at WPRO-AM
doing news for The Matt Allen Show.

I feel that a stations Network affiliation is a HUGE factor in whether their news product will be successful or not. NBC has always had top programming. Therefore NBC affiliates generally do real well when it comes to their newscast. Remember when WBZ switched away from NBC? Their newscast lost all it's ratings. If WLNE ever becomes an NBC affiliate that would be their best chance at getting ratings. Of course that will likely never happen.

Back in the late 70's and early 80's, CBS News was #1. WLNE was a CBS affiliate at that time, but nobody watched their newscasts. While I understand that there is some correlation, the network can't make up for a poor local news organization.
