WLNE New Open and Slogan

I noticed today that WLNE has a new open and a new slogan, "Honest. Fair. Everywhere."

The new open looks much sharper than the old one, and I hope that they also decide to revamp their other graphics which look like something from 1990.

I'll look for it on YouTube then post it here.

Is imitating Fox innovative? But give them credit for doing anything. Even for turning their operation over to Buddy Cianci.

I also just noticed that they have a 5 PM newscast on right now. I wonder why?

Maybe covering the tragedy in Connecticut. A gas leak cause a power plant to blow up. 5 dead. Countless others were injured. They story was in part on all 3 cable channels along with coverage on The BBC, CTV in Canada, and a network out of Australia.

Their best slogan of all was "Channel 6, we love New England... WLNE!"

Actually, my favorite was one they used in the mid to late 1970's...back in the WTEV days. It was sung to a catchy little tune.

The key phrase being: "6 Country is YOUR Country, 'Cause 6 Country is YOU!".

The piece...if I remember...was 30 seconds long, and on film.....yes...fuzzy looking film looking slightly out of focus....with clips of ordinary looking folks, and recognizable area landmarks.

Ahhhhhh......the WTEV days......http://chef.menujoy.com/wtev/

I agree! I wish someone had a video of this one.

Does anyone remember the words? Something like "From the Southern coasts of Rhode Island to Connecticut's scenic shores, from the xxx of the Bay State...all this and MOOOOOOORE...We Love New England...We Love New England...We Love New England at WLNE."

Then, it wan followed by the worst news theme music known to man (at least from 81-83). :D

With that being said, they had to have used Mayoham's "Home Country" package during that time. Go to southernmedia-nmsa.com and do a call letter search for WLOS, then click on the heart next to "Home Country" to hear the campaign song.

YEP!!!......That's the one. Boy, did THAT bring back some memories.

Actually...an even older memory of mine...datng back to the very early 1970's, was when WTEV used...for a time...the instrumental theme from the movie "Shaft" as the opening intro music bed for "NEWSCOPE 6".

OMG.... Worst News song? That just goes to show you that one mans junk is another mans prized posession. It's No word of a lie when I tell you that I've been searching for that music since the early 80's. I Love it! I could never find any information about it. I had no clue if it was specially produced news music or just some random production track. Last year sometime I heard a few seconds of it on a national radio talk show used as bumper music. That was my first indication that this track was more than locally produced music. I am actually totally blown out of the water right now to hear this and even more shocked that it's from the Rock Band Kansas. Thank you so much for finally solving the mystery for me!!! This song has been in my head ever since I was a kid. Now I finally get to hear it in full. Thanks again!

This is great! I had no idea that it was actually a Kansas song.

I did hear the song several years after Channel 6 used it, but it was in the middle of the night at the Student Coffee House at MIT.

I strongly preferred the next Channel 6 News Theme, introduced as Dave Laymen and Ann Conway took over the anchor chairs and John Ghiorse took over the chief met duties.

That would be this one:

Arguably, this was the best newscast in Providence in the 80's. But viewers just didn't watch WLNE at the time...

Yeah the later 80's one was Real NEWS music written especially for the NEWS. But my vote still goes to the Kansas tune. If I were in charge at ABC6, I would bring back the Kansas tune. That song still hold up well. Sounds very modern.... and is so long that you could actually edit together a whole Music package just from that one song. I could extract 10 different cues just from that one long track. If anyone at ABC6 wants to throw me a couple of hunderd bucks I'll do it for you. I'm telling you... That music right there is a WINNER!

Skynet, I'm probably 10 years older than you, which may account for the difference!

Then again, I associate that music with a very poor "Channel 6 News" newscast. They were almost unwatchable during that period. John Sweeney was always creating controversy as news director and chief anchor. I remember going to visit someone and they were watching the afternoon movie (Dialing for Dollars) on 6. When the "Kansas" theme came on, they got up and immediately "turned to 10". :D

And don't even get me started on how ugly that square "6" was during that period! :D

My guess is that I'm also somewhat older than Sky....which probably accounts for my fondness for THIS logo:

I remember that Logo. That thing was around when I was just learning to walk... LOL. As for the Kansas music, that theme hit the air when I was 12 years old. I think they used it until I was 15. Sure the newscast itself wasn't so great. But I'm not going to blame the rock group Kansas for that one. :)
