WLNE no longer doing RI Newschannel

From Wikipedia:

On February 1, 2012, WLNE's affilation with Cox channel 5 ended, and its programming on the channel was replaced with WJAR programming.

What, if any, benefit did WLNE get from this arrangement? Did they derive any ad revenue? Did Rhode Island News Channel 5 attract more eyeballs to the mother ship, or did it cannibalize Channel 6's already anemic news ratings? I also wonder if the loop of WMTW's newscasts on Time Warner Cable in Maine is benefiting Channel 8 in any meaningful way.

That's too bad. I would've rather seen them drop it all together for New England Cable News.
If Comcast was our cable operator, chances are we would've seen NECN come when WLNE dropped it.

I wonder the same thing about WCSH/WLBZ's loop as well, since NBC pulled Weather Plus it's been a rolling 10 minute loop (sometimes 12 hour old) of news & weather stories.
