Here's the scenario:
Last week, WPRI's Pete Lucas did a feature story on two University of Rhode Island basketball players that are from Cameroon. WPRI's story also included a Portsmouth Abbey basketball player that is also from Cameroon, who grew up with one of the URI players. This story was aired on the Fox 64 Sports Wrap show.
Last night, WLNE's Don Coyne did the SAME story (however, didn't do the angle with the Portsmouth Abbey student).
Why can't WLNE come up with their own feature stories to fill time on a Sunday night sports program? Is Don Coyne that lazy? Give me a break. It's bad enough for WLNE that nobody is watching them, but do they have to resort to stealing story ideas from Channel 12?
On the other hand, you won't see Channel 10 doing feature stories like this anyway. That place could put bars and tone up and people would still watch.
When it comes to covering local sports (high school, college, pro), WPRI consistently whips Channels 6 and 10 every night. Both stations should come up with their own ideas to gain viewers instead of copying Channel 12.
