WLNE- The 4th of July Fiasco

So who watched the Bristol parade on wlne this year? I did and I found the channel six coverage of the event much more entertaining then the parade it self. Let me give a few points on the wlne train wreck.

1. At the start of the telecast wlne was unable to establish a live link to Bristol, that made it hard on news anchor who was left in the lurch.
2. After a half hour of replaying anything that they can find related to parade to play they they were told that they had things sorted out and went to live coverage. WRONG! Back to the test pattern once again.
3.More dead air, and then we went live. It looked like they were still having issues at this point. Picture was filled with green and pink blocks, sound kept faded out more than once.
4. They did however catch the Marshall saying S&*t on air!!!!

"I'm watching the Bristol parade replay, and I can't help but wonder - are there any experienced professionals among the production and technical crews?"

"Horrible parade coverage. Amateur hour but I loved the parade Marshall swearing on the air. Good job guys!"

I was very disappointed with this years WLNE's parade coverage.First off, John Deluca was fine. So was Karen. But to have that
guy from the jewelry store(who sponsored the parade coverage) was an epic fail. He brought NOTHING to the parade coverage. NOTHING! Plus he had poor audio. Mark Curtis did okay. Where was meteorologist & Bristol resident Fred Campanagna? The coverage seemed very rushed in my opinion. Never letting the viewer have the impression that they "are there". It is supposed to be fun. And that sense of "fun" was missing from this years coverage. When WPRI covered the parade with Walter Cryan & Karen Adams. They got everything right! And they most certainly made it fun!

I have a feeling wpri or wjar might just get a chance to telecast the parade if wlne keeps this up.

I long for the days (the late 1970's/early 1980's).....when the Bristol Fourth of July Parade was carried by WSBE, Channel 36....in its entirety, and without commercial interruption of any kind.

Granted, WSBE's technological sophistication at the time was little better than what a cable access channel could muster today...BUT because there was no pressure to get in any commercial spots.....the camera(s) could afford to linger on the participants....giving one that feeling of "being there" that's sorely missing today.

If today's "Rhode Island PBS" were smart.....THEY would make a run at trying to get the parade back.

Anyone remember that Thanksgiving episode of "Family Guy" where Quahog, RI news anchor Tom Tucker gets pissed about how his station's in third place because of the unprofessional parade coverage? This is life imitating art.

LOL......LOL......LOL......That was good thinking...and a great laugh! Thanks.

There is something to be said for that whole 'life immitating art' thing. I've always had the feeling that poor old WTEV/WLNE was being represented on that show by "Quahog Channel 5". ;D

What?! Everyone knows Tom Tucker and Gene Valicenti are one and the same...

According to their Facebook page, WLNE repeated the parade twice -- once Friday night at 8PM on the Live Well channel, and Saturday morning at 5AM on the main Channel 6.

Was the rebroadcast the actual parade itself, or did it include the same muck-ups as the live broadcast?
