WLNG-FM Facilities Upgrade

A friend just informed me that WLNG is making announcements that it will to be off the air for 12 hours tonight starting at Midnight for an antenna replacement as well as an installation of a new transmitter. Did they get a power increase or are they just upgrading the station's equipment?

They just announced that they will be going off the air at 8 a.m. (Sunday) for equipment installation. They're hopeful they'll be back "in a few hours....back on the air at midday today." They'll continue to stream on WLNG.Com.

I think part of the charm of the station is the current sound in glorious mono. Stereo would hurt their coverage outside, which I know many like myself listen from outside the local area.

I remember when Paul Sidney's show was done in reverb

Get a radio with a stereo-mono switch. Stereo doesn't hurt a station's coverage anymore. It may have been the case 40 years ago. Besides, the 92.1 signal fizzles out around Exit 62 on the LIE where the Sachem School District's 91.9 FM signal starts chopping it up.

Where I live it still does.Does anyone else who lives a little distance from a station get a better signal with mono.I don't think this is true.
