WLNH on 102.3 in Maine

I was in Saco Maine last night and scanning the dial when it stopped at 102.3 and was playing Kings Of Leon and was like this used to be some sort of religious station so what gives? I was listening round 7:55PM and heard no legal ID of the station at 102.3 in the top of the hour ID at 8 when it should have been done. Anyone have any idea why WLNH would have a translator in this area and considering it's a hike from Laconia?

I'm guessing that the 102.3 translator in Biddeford normally picks up the 98.3 translator in Freeport. So either Freeport was off the air, or the conditions were just right for WLNH to overtake it.

according to their website, the Worship radio Network (95.3 & 88.9 in Augusta) changed up their translator line up, with all the southern maine ones changing from simulcasting 88.9 to simulcasting 95.3 so this might explain some of it

I can give confirmation that 97.1 W246BP the Sanford translator for 95.3 WWWA is picking up WLNH also. So it's possibly like what jlehmann said the southern maine translators are fed by 98.3 in Freeport and LNH happens to be taking over that station either because it's off the air or the conditions are just right to take over. My third theory is maybe 98.3 LNH has translators on 102.3 Biddeford and 97.1 Sanford now. How well does 98.3 LNH come in in Biddeford? I know with Sanford it doesn't come in on any radios except the car radio in certain areas. Who on here can receive any of the other translators or 98.3 Freeport?

The other stations for 95.3 WWWA are
92.5 Portland
102.3 Yarmouth
107.9 Portland

That can't be it. Commercial stations can't have translators extend their listening area beyond the 1mv(I think) contour, and must feed those translators off-air, so either the primary 98.3 is off the air (which is my guess) or there's something REALLY screwy there. IIRC, aren't these translators in violation by repeating a station without permission?

89.3 WMSJ has a translator way out of their coverage area on 99.9 FM in Haverhill, MA. It's pointless though cause A: it doesn't come in outside of Haverhill and B: even in Haverhill it comes in staticy and sounds awful.

WLNH has little to no coverage in the Biddeford/Saco area and being on the same stick in Saco with WCYY and WPEI one would wonder how it's coming in over the intended 98.3 that is supposed to feed the translator. I did a little research and found that WWWA-FM the station it is supposed to simulcast doesn't even have another translator on 98.3. WMDR 88.9 their sister station does but this is info from radio-locator so may be outdated as Mainedude mentioned in an earlier post. I am very surprised at the fact WLNH is showing up on 97.1 in Sanford as well cause that's a pretty good jump from Laconia as well. I wonder if anyone at WLNH knows about this to cause I can't see how this is legal by any means.

per the website, 95.3's translators are 98.3 Freeport, 92.5 Portland, 97.1 Sanford, 102.3 Yarmouth, 102.3 Biddeford, 107.9 Portland and a CP for 91.5 Conway, NH

i believe all this came about because 88.9 moved it's transmitter site from Skowhegan to somewhere north of Lewiston

Today at the Travel Plaza on I-95 in Cumberland I was picking up WLNH on 102.3.Later in the day in Freeport WFMX 107.9 was on 102.3.98.3 in Freeport was broadcasting Worship Radio but not with a very good signal.

perhaps in time some of the translators will be taken off the air,how much overlap is there between all the portland translators? between 98.3, 92.5 and 107.9 it seems a little excessive on the surface, but i'm no engineer.

my guess with the original subject is that they probably just changed what translator they were rebroadcasting. Biddeford to Freeport is a sdtrech, as Freeport is only 80 watts, that's basically saying you don't need any of the other portland transmitters.
