WLNY News - Where's the Long Island coverage?

This is not surprising at all. CBS bought this station to make it bigger and cover the entire tri-state area. So making all the news Long-Island centric would only attract a fraction of the metro area audience and not pull in anyone from the city or NJ/CT suburbs.

Fragmented news is a problem with all the NYC stations. The NYC area is simply much too large to adequeately cover the news from all the different regions. I used to watch WABC-7 news but as a resident of NJ, it seemed that WABC was covering way too many stories out of Long Island that I don't care about. But I'm sure people watching WABC on Long Island think the opposite, that they cover too many NJ stories.

Wasn't News 12 supposed to get more Long Island coverage and WCBS-AM 880 was supposed have at least 1-2 stories from the area and Northern NYC suburbs. While WINS is supposed to be focused on the City.

Also WLNY under CBS Ownership is basically New York City's version to KCAL 9 in LA. Look at KCAL9 since 2002 when the station changed owners from Young to CBS inc they simply inserted the KCBS 2 and KNX-AM crew to do news for KCAL9 and also some of the KCAL staff started to do reports for KNX and KCBS2 News.

Sure the only Difference between KCAL9 and WLNY is that KCAL9 was covering the entire Southland way before CBS came into play. While WLNY was only covering Long Island and competed against News 12.

I'm sure Cablevision is thrilled that there's one less competitor for news on Long Island. Apparently they fought tooth and nail to not have them be carried years ago due to their Long Island-centric newscast.

One major dissapointment with Fios is the lack of truly 24 hour news channel. Fios 1 sucks with infomercials at night, stupid nonsense shows, and poor LI coverage, their studio isnt even on Long Island. What kind of hitmen is Cablevision hiring to keep away any competition to News 12?
I was hoping the new WLNY news would be better, but so far I'm actually liking the old newscast better, especially back when it was WLIG TV-55.
I really wish Verizon would step up their game with the news. There's a few people I know who actually wont switch to Fios because of no News 12!

And I personally know someone who actually returned to FiOS from Cablevision (husband is a VZ employee) and she misses News 12 dearly!
