WLOB-AM-FM Not Giving Legal I.D.

Has this been discussed before? Every hour when it's running syndicated talk programming, WLOB fails to give it's proper legal I.D.

WLOB-AM is a 5000 watt station licensed to Portland. WLOB-FM is a big signal, Class C licensed to Rumford. (The "L-O-B" I assume refers to lobster.) The two stations simulcast all the time.

The current I.D. is "WLOB, AM and FM, Portland, Rumford, L-A, Augusta, Waterville." It may be knit-picking, in this day of the FCC not paying much attention to problems unless listeners complain, but you should be able to figure out from the legal I.D. the city of license for both the AM station and the FM station. (The other cities mentioned are okay if they come AFTER the legal I.D.)

So it should be "WLOB, AM-Portland, FM-Rumford" Then you can list the other cities the FM signal hits, L-A, Augusta, Waterville. By the way, they do use the initials "L-A," not Lewiston-Auburn. They are trying to fit a lot of words in a brief window for the legal I.D. But doing it properly takes no more extra time. I haven't heard if the station gives a proper I.D. when live hosts are on in the morning.

I've brought this up before on this board. That's the way it's been for years, probobly since day one when J.J. bought the stations. He does do a correct I.D. with 900/1440/95.5 which he calls WJAB.They are WJJB/WJAE/WJJB-FM.Is anything happening with the tower move of WLOB FM?It'sw moving to Norway and will put a primary coverage area over Greater Portland. Also his other station WRED.Sometimes they don't do a legal I.D.Sometimes it's Red Hot 95 Saco,Scarborough,South Portland ,Portland ,and there another one where they actually use the call letters with above mentioned 4 cities.

No.

It should be "WLOB, Portland" for 1310 and "WLOB-FM, Rumford" for 96.3. You have to say the full calls for each station (WLOB and WLOB-FM), followed by the city of license, with the only acceptable insertions being the frequency/channel number and/or the name of the licensee.<P ID="signature">______________

Roughly 1992 or 93, when WLNH Laconia was simulcasting their AM we ID'd as "WLNH AM and FM, Laconia" days and "WLNH Laconia" (which s/b WLNH-FM Laconia) at night when the then-daytimer AM had signed off. I mentioned it to management more than once, who never got around to changing it, IIRC.

I've heard the opposite more often. Back when the WROR calls were on 98.5 in Boston, they ID'ed as WROR-FM Boston.
