WLOO-DT expresses interest in being the new CW affiliate for Jackson

I just heard from someone at WLOO that they have been talking with CW and express interest in being the new affiliate. If WLOO qualifies, negotiations could begin soon. The source said that if they are able to gain the CW affiliation, they will broadcast CW programming in HD. ;D

Hopefully, this post won't disappear like some of the other posts in the Mississippi forum have lately.

I didn't ask. I figured that what they do with MyNetworkTV would be dictated in part by the upcoming negotiations with CW.

Have Comcast & AT&T replaced the former CW 34 with either a national feed or a local station from elsewhere? Directv has brought in WDCW from Washington for the time being. They also dropped WRBJ from the lineup.

I can report that Dish Network is still showing Trinity on Channel 34. I suspect they are leaving the channel in place to use the slot for the new CW affiliate coming, since that slot is an HD slot (even though the actual OTA channel is SD). Chances are that once WUFX gets the CW affiliation (which they haven't yet, but I am betting will get it in the not too distant future), they'll change the number on that slot to 35 and shut down the current SD 35 slot.

Comcast has local feed of Trinity broadcasting on Channel 8 and WLOO 35 on Channel 11. If WLOO gets The CW affiliation then my guess is it will remain in WLOO's current channel allotment Channel 11. The former channel allotment for TBN on Comcast Channel 59 has been removed. It would be nice to see either WLOO-TV pick up The CW or to see WXMS retain The CW Network.

As far as I can tell WXMS 27 and WBMS 10 are now off the air. The programming is still being broadcast on WDBD 40.2. As far as MyNetwork and CW. They could easily both be broadcast on WLOO 35.1 and 35.2. I only wish they could convert WLOO 35 to HD. It has been in crappy SD since the station went on the air and have made no effort to convert. 34 and 35 are the last hold outs. 34 had been sending 720p HD but with all SD programming but is now only 480i SD due to the 4 extra subchannels.

I desperately hope WLOO retains CW Network. Jackson is a disaster without a CW affiliate in Jackson. In 2001, when WDBD dropped FOX for WB, Jackson had no FOX affiliate but at least the then local cable companies did get the national feed FOXNET. Right now, Jackson has no CW affiliate and Comcast or Uverse hasn't replaced it yet.

I remember when WDBD dropped FOX. the world series and the Superbowl were on Fox that year. We couldn't watch the game that year and had to listen to it on WSLI. Even some cable subscribers didn't have it and found out on game day. American Idol was also the number one show that year. Dropping fox was the dumbest move in local TV history. BTW I emailed WUFX (WLOO) once and asked why they weren't in HD and got a snarkey reply that said the ARE in HD. I don't know what channel they were watching, but It wasn't their own station, because ch 35 has never been in HD unless they were watching some cable feed.\

There's nothing really on the CW that makes me go ga-ga over. But, I do understand that Jackson does need a CW affiliate. My Network might as well fold its tent and go home because they show nothing original since those telenovelas at their beginning.

I haven't heard back yet on CW affiliation. If I don't get an update in 2 more weeks, I'll reach out to my contact again and get an update.

From my contact today:

We have given our proposal to the CW network along with the other stations in the market that may look to acquire the affiliation as well. We are awaiting a final decision from the network.
