WLOQ AXES PATRICIA JAMES

The Bottom-line said:
No. It's called being cheap.
Sad for a company that used to promote itself as being a cut above. With that said...the entire station is BORING and without LIFE...a giant mp3 player is all that it is in my opinion. If VTing middays is going to be done...give the AM drive voice a rest and either move the night VT female into middays and the PD Paul Cross who has plenty of VT experience take over evenings or middays (if they don't want to move the night voice). Recycling the AM driver co-host sounds lame and is cheap.

She was there for 13 years and had become a part of the identity of this heritage Smooth Jazz station. Why not show her the door and cut the paycheck/benefits. Another part of their history and connection with the market lopped off just like bringing Cross in to add a big infusion of Lite A/C pop hits to the playlist and move the station toward "Smooth A/C."

Gross was "quirky" to say the least but for as long as I can remember James sounded like she came out of an an upper-class east coast private school. As far from "too black" as you can get. And the trend over the last 10 years was to go heavily into the R&B side of the music and to use African American males with deep Barry White type voices for voicetracking, once again Gross was totally lost in his own little world and out of touch. That station was always a mecca for people who love(d) the music and the localism but behind the doors it has always been a very strange ride..(I applied there several times and was actually hired to do P/T then a few days before my start date, mysteriously un-hired) There won't be "people issues," lawsuits etc when there are no people left though.

In my opinion it isn't just Herb...but the entire Gross family. Cat you are lucky in my opinion you didn't get roped into their madness. In my opinion anyone who encounters the Gross family soon becomes aware how dysfunctional they are. Patricia wasn't the only long time staffer let go...Dave Mills after 12 years of services and Joe Francis was thrown under the bus after 30 years of service. Yes, the industry let's people go...yes...economic times are tough...but, this is a company that tried to present itself as a "cut above"...a classy outfit. They lost that "class" years ago and it is evident by their conduct with James, Mills and Francis. Being on a "cost cutting" kick...it shouldn't be long before they cut someone else and have Cross take over the shift. Since not many are left it would either have to be Taylor or Morgan to be fired next. I hope they (Taylor & Morgan) are both smart enough to be looking for something else.
