WLOQ-FM Smooth 103.1 Sold?

I just found out while listening to Elvis tunes that WLOQ isn't TRUE Stereo sound. Both channels are equal. ???

I can tell you that the new owners of WLOQ are planning to go Spanish at this time. Lindemann has hired Rafael Grullon, who worked for Mega Communications (Owned By Adam Lindemann when he owned WNUE) to run the station. Grullon has been digging around the market the last few weeks to pluck some talent from other Spanish Language stations prior to the launch.

The KQ103 concept is an exact copy of KQ105 (WKAQ) in Puerto Rico. Since the Hispanic Market in Orlando is predominantly Puerto Rican, they are familiar with the KQ moniker.

The All Elvis Stunting is not the best move in my opinion. I would have started stunting in Spanish.

I don't know what you mean by TRUE stereo sound, but listening with headphones I can definitely hear stereo separation. I'm sure some of the Elvis music is synthesized stereo, but there is separation between the channels.

Maybe your receiver was blending to mono because of a weak signal?

Ah-ha! Someone was reading this & changed it. I now hear in stereo as opposed to yesterday. Good move, engineer!

Is hiring the guy who sunk the entire Mega Communications operation (Rafael Grullon) really a good move by Libermann? Grullon is Dominican, and he could never really connect with the Puerto Rican demographic in Orlando. Not sure why Libermann would make such a move with so many talented and proven Spanish-language radio leaders available right now.

Liberman = LBI based in Los Angeles, with stations like KHJ, KBUE and Estrella TV

Lindemann = the Forbes Richest list family... George and son Adam ($1.5 billion estimated worth).

Liberman: mostly Mexican dominant Hispanic Markets like Houston, Dallas, LA, Riverside plus TV.

Lindemann = former owner of Mega Communications, mostly Caribbean focused stations in the East.

Anyone who can program successfully for Santo Domingo can program for San Juan.

Who's that on the new KQ103.com website? I don't think it's Shakira. She's hot. I want to put her on my desktop background.
;)

Oh, the insight birdie just told us that "KQ 103 - La Que Te Mueve" will debut at 9pm tonight.

I'm going to enjoy what's left of "Elvis 103.1" for the next couple hours.

Poke.

Salad.

I guess it is Shakira on the homepage.

1st song Shakira "Rabiosa".

Yeah it's Shakira.

Second up Wisin Y Yandel Third up is Pitbull.
The liners are in English and Spanish. Sounds like they're going after some of Power 95.3's audience with a rhythmic dance sound.

I am not in the radio business so I don't understand all the ratings and such and maybe this question has been addressed somewhere on this board... Why do we need another Spanish radio station? ( I understand selling due to sickness and money) Are there enough Spanish speaking around to support another station? And any chance on getting a classical or jazz station back? Seems like Central Florida radio should have something a little lighter for those not wanting to rock/ or pop out all the time. Just saying.

The market is 26% Hispanic. And that segment is growing. And a huge percentage of them will prefer the music of their culture and heritage, no matter how well they speak English. There are probably 18 to 20 18-49 shares available if the major formats are all covered.

Keep in mind that Spanish is a language, not a format. There are as many or more formats in Spanish as there are in English.

This one is leaning really contemporary with a Spanish CHR/Dance lean..haven't heard a lot of the more traditional Meringues and Salsas that the Jacksonville station plays. I like both approaches but I'm lovin' this music mix. This one sounds like it is going to be chasing the non Hispanic listeners who are really getting into Latin music because of crossovers like PitBull, Daddy Yankee, Shakira, etc and the big explosion of Zumba classes/Latin dance fitness classes and these classes moving into the clubs too. I can't say they observed this phenom but there were 6,000 instructors in Orlando for a convention last month and there were a lot of off-site classes and flash mobs.

They were streaming a minute ago. Now they are not???

This is much better of a station that I expected so far.I heard Alexandra Stan and Martin Solveig along with current CHR staples Pitbull,Enrique Iglesias,Ne-Yo,Black Eyed Peas.If they play some Afro Jack now that would be something! Also,Plenty of the current Merengueton that's going on now. They tend to slow things down with a Latin pop or bachata record. Looks like they're leaving the traditional Salsa and older hits to Jose 98.1 and targeting the 18-34 year olds.Hopefully the jocks would sound like the audience they're targeting.
