How long can LOQ keep with a semblance of smooth jazz?
They've been nudging away from it with the vocal mix, and I wonder when the next wave of format adjustment in music may be coming. And where will it evolve to.
Opinions?

Probably the same direction as WSJT in Tampa and The Wave in LA. Go to their websites and check out the "last played" areas..more Lite A/C vocals and oldies and a gradual phase-out of instrumental music except for a few crossovers like "Songbird" and "Lily Was Here". Broadcast Architecture, the company that has controlled and directly or indirectly programmed most SJ stations since the mid 90s (the ones they didn't actually consult imitated the ones that they did consult) has designed their own bailout-door with a new format called Chillout Radio that has nothing to do with Chill. It's the vocals their Smooth Jazz affiliates play without the instrumentals. Here's coverage of the press release:

The big question becomes will a version of A/C that is "Lite-er" than the stations that call themselves "Lite" work. Especially when it comes to drawing a marketable demographic. Time will tell.
