Orlando’s family-owned WLOQ is sold to another family – the Lindemanns.
The Gross family has long owned Orlando-market standalone smooth AC WLOQ, a class C2 at 103.1 licensed to Windermere, Florida. There’ve been periodic sale rumors in the past, but now there’s a filed deal at the FCC. The documents show the price to be $8,037,000 and the official buyer something called TTB Media Corporation. It’s run by Eran Schreiber, but the fine print reveals the ultimate buyer as “Lindemann Capital Partners LP.” Adam Lindemann was the principal of the former Mega Communications group that specialized in running Spanish formats along the east coast. Adam’s father George Lindemann was profiled in a June 28 New York Times Dealbook story which says he “has quietly amassed a fortune over a five-decade career of buying and selling disparate businesses, like contact lenses and cellphone licenses.” It says his son Adam “is a prominent contemporary art collector who lives in an avant-garde black concrete house hidden behind an Upper East Side carriage house.” Adam’s also the author of several well-regarded books on art. Now the family’s re-approaching the radio business, this time through “TTB Media Corporation.” Presumably they're not going to stop with just one station - so we may have a new group forming, with deep pockets.
Format change ahead at smooth AC WLOQ, with the August 1 LMA?
Among the “excluded assets” are “the intellectual property, including websites and databases owned by the seller and relating to jazz music, the station’s existing format or jazz-related event concerts…” That would seem to set the stage for an online version of WLOQ – and a format change at 103.1. The Gross family, through a different company, has interests in four stations in the Bend, Oregon market, including AC “Mix 100.7” KMGX. Thus the $8 million Orlando sale leaves them in broadcasting, and perhaps webcasting, too. In the May PPMs, the Gross’ smooth AC WLOQ tied with Clear Channel talk/classic rock “Real Radio” WTKS (104.1) in 12th place, with a 3.8 share, and a cume of about 230,000. The FCC document shows the broker to be Media Venture Partners, for seller Gross Communications.
