True Oldies. Sort of brings back memories of the old 1550 WAAY.

That's a good move for them. They needed to make a change since WHRP went Urban A/C because everyone listens to the station on FM and WLOR's numbers were in the toilet. Plus the mainstream urban with Doug Banks in the morning and urban a/c all the rest of the day wasn't working. Oldies is a great choice. It'll do well on that strong AM frequency and there is room for the format since 100.3 The River is adult hits and not pure oldies.

With Lee Reynolds at the helm, it'll do great.

You've got that right. He is an excellent programmer and an honor to work with. The transmitter site for 1550 is getting a much needed overhaul and will be up to a full 50kw eventually.

How much daytime power have they been running? Their signal is better now, and I sometimes hear them at night for the last week or so. I'm about 45 miles from them.

I'm not sure how much power. I know it's less than 30Kw. That poor tuning system is over 40 years old and has been hit by lightning way too many times. Parts are due in soon to repair all that. I eagerly await that. I worked for WAAY in '84 and '85 using the air name Chris Roberts. There was an ice storm amd for two weeks, we were 50Kw 24/7 with a top 40 format. We got calls from all over. Even after power at the 50 went down and we were on 5Kw non directional, we still got a call from Oregon. Sweet!
