WLOR on FM now too

I was flipping through the FM band today in Madison and picked up True Oldies on 98.1. The station is IDing as Sunny 98 and 1550am, and still playing the True Oldies format. This 98.1 isn't the same as the Alabama Public Radio translator in Madison, as I was able to pick it up strongly all the way home on south parkway.

That translator (W251AC) has a nice CP pattern, according to Radio-Locator--going from 10 watts to 250.

You're right, that's a heck of a translator. Nice coverage area. Maybe the FM simulcast of 1550 will help them return to the ratings. I know a few stations that would kill for a translator of that size in Huntsville to simulcast on. Off the top of my mind, WEUP-FM and WVNN-FM. Both are major players in the Huntsville market but need better Huntsville FM coverage pretty bad. I still think Cumulus should simulcast WVNN on 93.3 instead of 92.5. Maybe they will descide to eventually. Speaking of WEUP, I don't see why they couldn't put in an app to relocate their 102.9 translator to 102.7 and move it to drake mountain where their current 92.3 translator site is and increase power to 200-250 watts similar to what 98.1 just did. I don't see anything in the way that would block that move and they wouldn't need 92.3 anymore either which is just about useless anyway.

That probably would happen, considering I use 102.7 for part 15, and live 7 miles from Drake mtn, lol. I've been playing musical frequencies against translators and new station move ins the past few years, from 100.3 to 103.9 to 102.7 and 95.7

Where did that "Sunny" name come from? I don't ever remember WLOR using it before... ???

[EDIT-unauthorized promotion]

They never used it before. A station in Anniston on 1490 is going to be called Sunny 104.3, when they get the translator up. The same people that own WTDR is doing this.

I listened to the new 98.1 in Huntsville yesterday. It has good coverage all around the city but I didn't get a chance to go down to south Huntsville so I'm not sure how well it comes in down there. I picked it up pretty clear up in Meridianville as well. I saw a TV commercial for it today on one of the local TV stations. The logo looked nice. It had 98.1 in big letters and 1550am in tiny little letters at the bottom LOL. The voice on the commercial never mentioned 1550am at all but the station is IDing on the air as "Sunny 98 and 1550am". I tried to look up a website for WLOR as "Sunny 98" but didn't find one. Strangely jammin1550.com is still active but only shows a link to listen live and a logo for "true oldies channel 1550" which is not the logo that they are apparently using from what I saw on the TV commercial. I also found trueoldies1550.com but it shows the same thing as jammin1550.com. Maybe a full website is still in the works.

Speaking of 104.3 in Anniston, are you sure its not on already? I'm not down there so I can't tell but if you go to the website at wsyasunny.com it redirects you to wtdrthunder.com and the logo at the top flashes between Thunder 92.7's logo and Sunny 104.3's logo. Plus FCC records show it's on the air already.
