How does this station compare to 96.1 in Lexington KY which also has a weak signal?

Pretty similar. Same power level, antennas are near the county line of an adjacent county rather than in the center of the city. LRS might be a little closer, but they also have that directional antenna with power reduction toward Louisville.

Using R-L as a unofficial reference, 96.1 primary signal covers almost all of the Fayette County population as well as Versailles, Georgetown and Frankfort (though FM is a challenge there due to terrain). Also, 96.1 doesn't have the co-channel and adjacent channel issues.

105.1 was squeezed in between two 105.1's and close by 1st channel issues. Its only upgrade happened and there won't be anymore.

Why would you make a FM talk station mono? Sure, most of the syndicated shows are from single channel satellite feeds, but you'd still want to play your commercials and imaging in stereo. Besides, most FM listeners think something's wrong with your station if the "stereo" indicator isn't lit up, whether or not the programming is in actual two-channel sound.
I for one noticed that the FM light was out for this station on my car radio, so I just tuned my radio back to 103.5 and enjoyed the great sounds of WAKY during my lunch hour. Its nearly as good as those classic 79 clips that can be hear on the net at http://www.79waky.com/, that is if you haven't heard by now. :)
