WLRS/WLRX end simulcast?

The FCC doesn't have to be notified until the station is dark for ten days, per FCC rule 73.561 (d). They can leave it dark up to 30 days total without FCC authorization.

Here's the rule:

(d) In the event that causes beyond the control of a permittee or
licensee make it impossible to adhere to the operating schedule in
paragraph (a) or (b) of this section or to continue operating, the
station may limit or discontinue operation for a period not exceeding 30
days without further authority from the Commission provided that
notification is sent to the Commission in Washington, DC, Attention:
Audio Division, Media Bureau, no later than the 10th day of limited or
discontinued operation. During such period, the permittee shall continue
to adhere to the requirements of the station license pertaining to the
lighting of antenna structures. In the event normal operation is
restored prior to the expiration of the 30 day period, the permittee or
licensee will notify the FCC, Attention: Audio Division of the date that
normal operations resumed. If causes beyond the control of the permittee
or licensee make it impossible to comply within the allowed period,
Special Temporary Authority (see Sec. 73.1635) must be requested to
remain silent for such additional time as deemed necessary. The license
of a broadcasting station that fails to transmit broadcast signals for
any consecutive 12 month period expires as a matter of law at the end of
that period, notwithstanding any provision, term, or condition of
license to the contrary.

Yes, WLRX has gone dark.

Humm, wonder of they got any of the Holy Water on the plate or high voltage power supply in the transmitter?

The only problem with that, is there is no allowance for a format change. "Causes beyond the control"....things like the tower falling, transmitter site burned down, owner ran out of money and/or staff, things of that nature. I don't think the guys at the Enforcement Bureau would take to kindly to a station taken off the air for a simple format change.

Re: WLRS/WLRX end simulcast

Radio One is throwing away money. They could have basically sold all of the airtime to Mainline to run spots telling listeners to go to 105.1, or let WAY-FM lease airtime on it.

Does 104.3 have a local studio right now?

I believe radio one or mainline could care less about wlrs so that is why they did not direct people to 105.1

Who's to say that 105.1 as we know it now will exist for very long after Main line takes control?

Stream, stream, stream!!! It's just not fair that there are all these opinions on radio stations that I have never heard but want to very badly. One day of streaming WLRS is all I ask.

Pony up the money then pops. Stream your own station. You'll find it's not cheap, and an internet presence was not Radio One's strong point.

Yeah but it's more than a format change, it's a transfer of control. If Way-FM doesn't want to be held responsible for LRS programming, and Mainline doesn't want to help out Way-FM, and if Way has no means to get programming on the station, what are they to do?

I agree it's not the best of reasons, but as long as it's less than 10 days they won't even have to file for it.

Yes.. During the legal transfer of control, Way has the option to do nothing until all sale and FCC approval is done.. It can go dark under those conditions.. The old ownership selling is in the responsibility role and Way has the choice 'not' to LMA it... ;)

I'm wondering how way fm will sell advertising in this market.

Starguide receiver at the transmitter. They could have gotten you, me, Don or Pete to install it. Or a CD player at the transmitter. I think taking the station off the air is a really bad idea unless they are gonna do a major advertising push when they turn it back on. Transfers happen all the time without pulling the plug on the station.

I have to say that I have been enjoying the opportunity to listen to WXBC-FM 104.3 in Hardinsburg. KY. I almost had forgotten how a community-friendly station sounds like. They actually have the top-of-the-hour local news on Saturday and early Sunday mornings, unlike any Louisville station. They are mostly Country during the week. I heard some them playing some Christian Praise music after the 5am news this morning. During the entire day on Sundays, they air Country/Southern Gospel music with a mixed with broadcasts from local churches. It has been an interesting and unique station to listen to.
