WLS AM/FM SOLD

What a timely topic. I live 35 miles from Chgo FM transmitters & have a roof antennae. have had Sony & Scott FM receivers. Now I converted to a digital Sony 7.1 to one. Excellent for movies, TV cable, CD, etc, but FM stereo reception on many strong stations weak with roof antennae. Why does advancement in tech mean other functions are sacrificed? Thank you.

Sounds like there's something wrong with that receiver (broken antenna connection? overload?) or your antenna (how's your TV reception on it?). For most of the time I lived in the Chicago area, I lived 30 to 50 miles from the towers (Streamwood & Wauconda, respectively), and had no problems with the downtown FM stations on either an outside antenna or a built-in monopole.

Antennae checked, reason it's bad is the digital receivers are not sensitive to FM signals, my previous receivers were not that discriminating, but they were analog. TV reception on same mast fine. Maybe we need cable FM. Comments welcome.

My guess is too much RF (overload).

Biondi just said on his Friday Night Show that a Cumulus Executive is moving into a new office at WLS FM. Wonder how long before we see changes.

Seems like WLS FM has added some new jingles that sound very much like those in 70's. Anyone notice?

Considering that JAM's been doing their jingles all along (and owns the PAMS jingle packages LS used to ran), they're most likely resings of old packages. From the call letter change, they had been running the original Warp Factor and Hot Kiss packages, plus resings from Music Jam (1979) and Outstanding (1981). They could've used the FM package from 1981 as is, except for the fact that the station give the frequency as 94.7, not "FM 95."

Radio Discussion Board reports that "Longtime WPLJ (95.5) overnighter Dave Stewart posts the news on his Facebook page and says goodbye after almost 22 years. Stewart may be the most visible and immediate of the cuts in New York, but Radio-Info.com hears there were other ones at talk WABC (770) and hot AC WPLJ. Cumulus closed on its $2.4 billion purchase of Citadel Broadcasting in mid-September, and has been working through the Citadel large markets, apparently starting with Dallas and recently visiting Los Angeles."

Is the hammer ready to fall at our beloved WLS?

Let's hope not, but this doesn't sound good.

Saturday morning, all WLS newscasts were from ABC...nothing local. Has this always been the norm on Saturday mornings or did the cloud already dismiss the weekend news staff?

WLS AM is a great station...I hope they don't mess with any of the live/local elements.

Today, Feeder reports the following:
"It’s over and out for Mancow Muller in the Big Apple. His Sunday night talk show on WABC-AM in New York was among the casualties of cutbacks Friday at the station under new owner Cumulus Media. Laurie Cantillo, program director of WABC, had nothing but praise for Muller, whom she hired in September 2010. “Mancow has a unique, high-energy approach that won him many fans in New York,” she told me. “I’ll never forget his powerful show from Ground Zero on the 10th anniversary of 9/11. He’s a pro and a friend, and I wish him the best.” Muller continues to host his Monday-through-Friday morning show for Talk Radio Network from Chicago. "

I hope this is not the start for changes at WLS?????

Amen Doc...

Just heard that 7-8 people have been shown the door at WLS-FM, including just a few minutes ago, PD Michael Lacrosse. Cumulus is the new CC!

It's true. Now we sit and wait for other shoes to drop.
