WLS AM/FM SOLD

Why does Landecker need 5 hours?????

IMHO....

Plugging someone else into Biondi's former shift (or most of it) might or might not produce an evening ratings bump. Doubtful it would produce a significant revenue bump in any case. However....plugging JRL into a daytime slot could open the door to an increase in both revenue and ratings. There's no reason to bring JRL on board and them put him where he's not going to make a positive contribution to the bottom line. Hence my theory that Landecker's time slot, may turn out to be temporary.

If that's the case, hopefully some sort of reasonable and mutually acceptable outcome can be devised for Biondi and his fans. Both deserve it.

I listened to WLS last night. I felt Landecker sounded exhausted in his last hour. Again why does he need 5 hours of air time? Again Landecker 6-9 and Biondi 9-Midnight makes sense to me.

I'm with you on that. Bring Biondi back to an hour that we can actually hear him.

You have to understand that radio is a tough deal to be in as an employee or dj. Very many mgmt changes, many career moves to other locations, geographic moves, to get to better positions. It makes Biondi's continued survival in that medium even more amazing. Many radio people stay in same small markets all their lives, Biondi's durability is unquestioned. Not too many equals, maybe Jerry Blavat in Philly or Bruce Morrow, ex WABC, now on satellite radio, and lets not forget Dick Clark. You made our days brighter Dick, keep it up.

The listenership to radio after 9 PM is small. Essentially no revenue is generated by music stations after 9... and very little after 7 PM, too. To pay a "big name" talent for a late late shift is something that radio in today's economy can't justify.

My point exactly. Hence my guess that JRL is being "parked" in the evening slot on an interim basis.

Jan and JRL are very close and with the new ownership why not push Biondi out. What better way than making life miserable for him so he leaves. Give him a late shift and hope he quits and walk out like 50 yrs ago. This time Biondi stayed but for how long? Jan is betting on a short stay for Biondi. Now I know what WLS stands for.....WLS (World's Lousiest Station)

OK Guys.... Lets show the brains of WLS FM what we can do.... They trashed Biondi and we are fighting back. This blog gets over 200 hits a week. People are reading this blog let me tell you! OK Starting now... Remove WLS FM preset from all your radios! Lets watch their ratings dive..... And Jan don't let the door kick you in the......
Bring back Biondi to his regular shift!!!!!!

I won't listen to the station anymore I'm done with them unless they give Biondi back his earlier shift. Go KHITS!
Jan Jeffries is a %$$!!

Jan Jeffries has been with Cumulus for eons... as the corporate VP of Programming for the entire group.

The cume of the top cuming station in Chicago is around 2,000,000. Do you seriously think that 200 signatures is going to make any difference?

And "Jan" is Jan Jeffries, the corporate VP of Programming and he calls the shots... he is in no risk of getting in trouble, even were he wrong (which he isn't).

WLS FM was 6th or 7th in cume in mornings, midddays and afternoons in December (in 12+), but 17th in evenings. What does that say to you?

WLS-FM will have 200 fewer listeners..... IF they can't do any better than THAT with Biondi... i don't think landecker(as good as he is) will make much difference because i don't think night time radio is where many people over 40 are at these days, this is why many stations go syndication(write it off). lets get real, dick is in his 80's now(i wish him well and he still sounds great!) but i think cumulus is looking for a replacement for when he retires or something. at LEAST they're keeping him on the air, and he SHOULD be on the air until he no longer wants to be, if for nothing else, out of Respect.

You make a good point--it's the hours(evening) that are the problem, not the DJ.

No, in the 1972-1975 Period Jan was in Birmingham as PM Driver at WERC and then, I believe, WSGN, before moving on as PD in Roanoke. I hired him in '72 for 'ERC out of WKRG in Mobile.

Right on the money. Landecker won't improve ratings at that time. The people love Biondi. Landecker--not so much.

Well, I DO love both and cannot see playing one against the other.

Betcha there are a lot of other people my age in Chicago who would like to be able to hear both at reasonable hours.

Move Landecker to mornings, keep biondi on the same shift and move the current morning guy to late nights or, out.

I think this move just put an end to Biondi on the radio. Do you have elderly parents in their 80's? What time do they go to bed? Do you see them staying up till 2AM and than driving home everynight in all types of weather.
Biondi will NOT stay long on this shift. Believe me in a short time, he will have resigned and be forced into retirement or be on another station like K Hits.

IIRC One good thing Citadel did: was to give all of their on air employees a "release" from non compete clauses in their contracts that Cumulus canned. I can only guess that Cumulus wants to keep Biondi from working at another station. I am not a Lawyer, but I bet if Biondi "quits" then the "clause" does that effect.

That would be great if Biondi landed at another station. How many of his listeners can stay up for his current hours? Not many is my guess.
