WLS AM/FM SOLD

Spent a wonderful evening tonight with Mike Drexler. Mike did news for both WCFL and WLS back in the 60's and 70's. What a great talent he was and still is....

IIRC One good thing Citadel did: was to give all of their on air employees a "release" from non compete clauses in their contracts that Cumulus canned. I can only guess that Cumulus wants to keep Biondi from working at another station. I am not a Lawyer, but I bet if Biondi "quits" then the "clause" does that effect.

I believe Illinois is one of the states where non-competes don't hold. So they essentially gave up nothing of value.

You're absolutely correct. However many employers...probably even a majority...include them anyway to discourage/intimidate employees.

I once had a labor layer look at the one I had (in the course of exploring something else pertaining to my contract), and he actually busted out laughing about how unenforceable it was. And this was an instrument from a large global b to b media company with no shortage of legal firepower.

I'm not saying Citadel's gesture was insincere, but I suspect PR value was a consideration.

Clark Weber is a gem, on the air at WLS AM all the way back to the 60's, for a while on morning drive. What was his on air line? "Mama Weber's favorite son"? Something like that. What a radio voice. He was filling in on AM 1690 when it was a 50's station.

"Mother Weber's Oldest" IIRC

In his role as husband and dad it was "Old Big & Ugly". Not to be confused with Ron Riley who called him "Old Baldy-locks" (or "Chrome-dome")

Looks like WLS has tweaked their music playlist again. More 80's and less 60's. Not hearing any 50's anymore either. Do you think this will help or hurt the ratings?

Dick Biondi is still playing some 50s & 60s.

Depends, 6+ "could" hurt, but one of the "money" demo's could help.

there have been plenty of 89WLS rewinds, but i can't find or have heard an aircheck of clark weber from the golden days of WLS, or CFL for that matter.

Rumor of big shake up to come at WLS AM. Is Rush out? Stay Tuned!

I've seen Cumulus quoted elsewhere as saying that their contract for Limbaugh runs for two more years and that they will honor it.
