WLS drops HD at night

Trades are saying they dropped HD because of noise and interference...
Has anyone heard the difference after dark or is this smoke?
 
I am 19 miles from the transmitter. There is definitely no HD Radio signal on WLS tonight, according to my Sangean HDR-1. Like usual when they don't have the HD signal on, the audio is richer (~8kHz), too. I can get 880 WCBS New York, which was completely impossible with HD on WLS for me.
