WLS-TV and Mark Giangreco splitting up

Giangreco has been a sports anchor in Chicago since 1982, when he joined WMAQ-TV from Louisville. He moved to WLS-TV in 1994. As the story notes, he's gotten into trouble with management before, but apparently he and Burton loathe each other, and this time management had to pick.

Worry not for Giangreco. He's got money falling out of his pockets.

I'm still trying to figure out how he didn't know about Walter Payton's liver disease when he shot off his mouth in 1999. Payton died that November, and had announced it several months before.

Giangreco is certainly not at the elite level of Chicago sportscasters like Tim Weigel and Johnny Morris, but he's no Chet Coppock, either. At 68, my guess is that he'll either retire or get hired by one of the sports radio stations.
