WLTJ changes name to Q92.9

As of today 92.9 is now called Q92.9. The format sounds exactly the same as the old LTJ. I wonder if this is a smokescreen of something completely different tomorrow.

I hope its the return of active rock to Pittsburgh.......out of town for a funeral but will be sure listening on Monday night as we get back home on the turnpike headed west!

Highly unlikely...considering how a name change wouldn't come until the new station formally debuted.

Highly unlikely...considering how Steel City is slow to change. To this day, I still can't believe they gave up on that 2-share with the old WRRK format for a NEW format with Bob. ::)

Just a refreshening of the AC format. Less slow ballads and more currents - basically a "Fresh" format. Something to create a lil buzz about the frequency (Hell, it got us here to actually talk about 92.9!) Nothing important to see here unless you're a soccer mom in Mt. Lebanon, move along...

I don't know if this is true or not, but rumor has it though that WLTJ got rid of their entire airstaff.

That may or may not be true. Stations sometimes "clean the house" when trying to create a new image for themselves. Regardless of the fact it's almost the same format, the old talent symbolizes the "old" station they are trying to replace.

If it stays along the lines of what the liners have been saying about that they will be telling the title to each and every song, there may no be no need for an airstaff anymore either. WMVX in Cleveland does that very thing. I also heard WNNF in Cincy make have the same approach, haven't heard them in person yet to be sure.

They seem to be having some website issues...the old wltj.com site redirects to q929fm.com - which pops up a 404.

Oops...

Scott....thanks for the info. Does this maybe signify something is up with a format change?

I was listening to 92.9 om my way back from Cleveland tonight. The music sounds the same. One promo mentionrd "Less DJ talk". If you were listnening in all week, there were some comments about "getting used to the new equipment", Ads being played while the DJ's talking and there were some slip-ups where the song titles were being announced while the DJ's were talking. However, No one mentioned what it was about. Does this mean the end of the long-running "Gary & Beth" show? John Gallagher has been there since they were WPNT.

I just checked the website again, and it has the logo and says "The Best Music Mix".......

No doubt a new call sign is in the works.... with a "Q" in it.

The title and artist thing is off to a great start (not)..... they are using recorded drops at the end of each song with the title and artist.. the very first one I heard pronounced "Hootie" as "Hotie"...... just great.

And title/artist info only matters when you are playing stuff that's new or obscure. When WMMO signed on in Orlando back int he 90's they were playing stuff like Brewer & Shipleys' "One Toke Over the Line", Walter Egan's "Magnet and Steel" and "Smoke From A Distant Fire" by Sanford and Townsend. That's the kind of format that needs it... everyone knows Fleetwood Mac's "Don't Stop" and Daughtry's "Home".

So far this looks like what Steel City did when they stunted with RRK and came back with a repackaged version of the same thing that was worse than the format it replaced.

I heard their ID at the top of the hour (9AM) "WLTJ Pittsburgh" but it was said very fast leading into the "Q92.9" promo.

I heard a station promo this morning on Q92.9 that mentioned mornng co-host Gary Love will be on location.

According to the old WLTJ site, he was scheduled for the following event:

Saturday March 29th 10am-Noon Join Gary Love at the Mt. Lebanon Huntington Bank (327 Cochran Rd.) for the Huntington Bank Yappy Hour! Enjoy complementary food & drink, win prizes plus the Western Pa. Humane Society will be onsite with adoptable pets with Pittsburgh's Lite Rock 92.9

Also, they are still running commercials with Vicki Cohill doing the voice overs.

I just heard the Q92.9 jingle. Hello, 1988!!

Bad letter choice...you can pick up Q 102 (101.9) from Morgantown to the west, and Q 94 (94.3) from Cresson to the east. Why not P for Pittsburgh? (huh huh, they said pee. I guess that's why.)

If this is a 100.7 clone, all I can say is [insert barf icon here].

I dont know for sure if it going to be like star 100.7, but i got that vibe from the commecial I saw.

Actually, the Q92.9 jingles remind me not so much of 1988, but of the "Family Guy" episode featuring Brian and Stewie as morning duo "Dingo and the Baby"...a great lampoon of morning zoo radio ;D
