WLTJ Playlist

It seems like WLTJ is adding more upbeat songs to their lineup looking at the playlists on Yes.com.
Heres a sample of what they played last night on LTJ
Jennifer Paige-Crush
Jimmy Buffet-Margaritaville
Kelly Clarkson-Because of you
Marvin Gaye-Sexual Healing
Edwin Mccain-I'll Be
Andy Gibb-I just Want to Be your everything
3 Doors Down-Here Without you
Olivia Newton John-Physical

I also noticed they dumped the replay weekends they used to have.

This playlist seems more upbeat than WSHH. I actually like it.

The playlist has been more upbeat than WSHH for the past several years, ever since they adpopted the "Lite Rock" positioning. Back in the 80's and early 90's they were more head-on with WSHH and modeled after WLTW/NY.

I only see Jennifer Paige and 3 Doors down as departures from what they've been doing, and I'm sure they are both huge 25-54 female research records.

They've dropped the "lite rock" from their moniker and now refer to
themselves as "92.9 WLTJ". They're also running a spot where they
talk about playing a wider variety of music. This move seems to contradict
the dropping of the replay weekends, but who knows. It doesn't matter
anyhow because the average listener won't notice and everyone seems to be
doing "whatever we want" style programming to some degree.

Speaking of "Whatever We Want...."

WSHH bumpers this weekend were saying all this weekend we are playing whatever we want! I heard it a few times when I was in the car with my wife yesterday.(She's the WSHH listner not me)<P ID="signature">______________

As a listener, I find it incomphrehensible figuring out how you people in radio pigeonhole music and musicians into all of the neat little categories you all seem so partial to. All of those songs are nice, snappy little tunes, but nothing that seems all that "upbeat" compared to the other stuff that they play.

I've even heard the wish DJ on Saturday afternoon say that too...it sounded like a rxn to Bob Fm...

What you don't hear.

You notice, you never hear a radio station telling listeners "We play what YOU want to hear".

O-Rock in Orlando (WOCL 105.9) was actually saying that for a month or two ...as their ratings continued to decline.

I was only referring to stations on the air in Pittsburgh.

The only station in Pittsburgh playing a whatever you want weekend is Star 100.7, which may not be true?

Closest you're gonna come to that is a request show--for example, 3WS's Sunday Night Oldies Diner. Although, I will mention, without letting the cat out of the bag--WJPA's Sunday oldies shows are happy to take requests, even though they don't advertise (beg) for them.

Speaking of--did you ever notice how rare request shows are getting nowadays?

Re: What you don't hear.

I listened to WDVE much of the day Saturday, and they were having an "Electric Lunch Weekend" consisting of mostly requests, especially requests for deep cuts. It was one of the few times I can recall listening to any Pittsburgh music station in the past few months that wasn't boring.

But I wasn't referring to special slots like the 'DVE "Electric Lunch" or stunt weekends. I was referring to a station adopting the slogan "We play what YOU like" as their constant, 24/7 position statement/slogan.

It strikes me that "We play what WE like" sounds arrogant, while "We play what YOU like" sounds more like a station that I'd want to listen to.

> I agree with you Radio Realist on it does sound very arrogant when stations say we play what we want. It's telling me who gives a f*** about what the listeners want to hear. Even when BOB FM says we play anything, that of course means they play what they want as well. Maybe ratings would go up if more radio stations in general play what the public wants as you said 24/7. I guess too many corporate decisions to follow.

I think this is one of their best weekend features. It reminds me of the DVE that I used to like.

I agree with you on that. "We" and this "Bob" character are the most obnoxious and arrogant positioners around. Very non-approachable.

I think Star has been doing that for some time.
