a little birdy tells me that wltj didn't do well going all x-mas this year... wish really beat them bad. wonder when wltj might change and to what?
 
WLTJ has been suffering in the ratings for over a year and a half now with their regular format.

I think if the numbers don't improve they should try another format. We already have an AC station in Wish and a Hot AC station in star.

In my opinion, I would love to see an AAA station in the Burgh.
 
Despite the fact that WISH always beats LTJ 12+, LTJ's demos are always younger. If they can hang around the top 5 in women 35-54 they make good money, and that's ALL they care about.

I say don't look for LTJ to change anytime soon. If anything, they'll tweak their existing format to where they'll get the numbers they once had, but they're not going to trash 24 years of market heritage because of a couple of bad books. I look for them to switch consultants before that happens.

I think if Saul and Gregg were that worried, change would have happened a long time ago.
 
I've seen some comments that maybe LTJ is a little too all-over-the-road right now. Maybe too much influence from Bob down the hall?

Anytime numbers slipped when I was there we'd just tighten the list down to the really strong core songs and the numbers came right back up. (Say what you want about repetition, the average listener, when you tighten down the list, reacts along the lines of "wow, all good songs today...".)

I have to admit that I haven't listened to them lately. As long as they have strong core artists other than Celine Dion and Michael Bolton (whom it looks like have finally run their course, thank goodness!), they can make it. My instincts tell me Elton John, Gloria Estefan, Sheryl Crow, and Lionel Richie would be a few.

If any station wants to stick to the core artists, they need to keep the music mid-tempo to upbeat if they want a tight playlist. No listen-at-work station ever succeeded (at least in recent years) by putting people to sleep.
