WLTW 106.7 Ratings...and Delilah?

It appears that WLTW is (and has been) taking a hit from Fresh-FM...and I assume it's in all dayparts.

It may be hard to tell....but how is Delilah doing in her time slot?

Better or worse than the previous local host?

When exactly did Delilah start on Lite?

Thanks for any info you can give...

I can't speak to the ratings but I will speak to the quality. WLTW at night is 100 times better than Fresh depending on your taste in music of course. WLTW is the only New York station that plays romantic love songs at night if that is the type of music you're interested in. From 8-1am WLTW has songs far superior to Fresh in every conceivable way, and that hasn't changed from the transition to JJ Kennedy to Delilah. I mean just recently Fresh played the horrible Shakira song Whenever Wherever while WLTW has just played the absolutely beautiful songs You Raise Me Up and I Need You by Leeanne Rimes. I've long ago concluded that at nighttime every single song played on Fresh is horrendous and that is why I might be willing to listen to Fresh at day when the two stations are playing the same songs but not at night when WLTW and Fresh do not ever play the same material. Never.

Yeah, but this is simply your personal opinion/taste.

What about performance.

I know the Fall book was good...due to Christmas Music...But how has Delilah done with nights since she replaced JJ?

I think where the station is hurting are during thet daytime hours. In this order, I think here are the circumstances that have led to the slip in the ratings.
    • Rebranding the station from LITE to NY's 106.7: This is not something you do when you are number one in too many catagories to list as a new competitor comes on the scene, in a dial position that hasn't had much success in almost 10 years. It actually boggles my mind that they did this. Lite FM was such a strong brand in New York City, as strong a Z-100 and Hot 97 for music stations.
    • Tweaking the music: A little maybe, but for awhile there seemed to be a drastic reduction on gold AC, the foundation of the format long after the forgettable currents are long forgotten,
    • Fresh 102.7's aggressive approach: The format sounds alot better now, and the aggressive TV ad campaign seems to have gotten people to sample. While the gains have subsided (and dipped), I think the buzz is out there that there are two players in town. What was once a difference of approx 5.0 in the 12+ numbers is down to a 2.0 12+ in two books and change.
    • The departure of jocks/choice of talent:The fact that Kennedy, Buchner etc are gone is a crime. This isn't brain surgery, this is New York radio and it was done correctly for so many years, why drop the ball now? The likes of Rich Kaminski are totally wrong for the station. Much better suited for his former employer, WPLJ Delilah is OK, but there is nothing better than live... although the way Kennedy's show was structured towards the end (with her reading these out of context requests w/o hearing the actually caller) was horrible. In this case, the formatics of Delilah are better than the formatics of what Kennedy was doing, but I would take Kennedy anyday in the right environment over Delilah.

Fresh took the bite on younger listeners. WLTW is feeling the pain but keeping the older niche listeners. WLTW may hold out for a year or 3 for a format change, but that far up the dial I expect a great change, perhaps another ethnic station or church group taking over. Remember, Fresh got the hot spot on the dial and with digital tuning it will still take some time for listeners to find it and make the change. It would be too hard at this point for WTLT to risk losing the niche listeners by adding more newer songs and risking 2 stations sounding the same. Must be lots of cursing and indigestion at WLTW, but they had their day of being number one.

Delilah is holding up her end at night (#3 25-54). Middays, WLTW is #1 25-54. Their big challenge will be boosting their morning drive numbers, which have traditionally been their ratings weakness.

One of the problems with boards that allow handles "George Jetson" is that it make it easy for perhaps employees of competing station to spread rumor and propaganda.

To state the obvious "dial" position means nothing anymore if you need proof of this I suggest that you look at the recent history (your?) station. That "Hot spot" could'nt get a listener for anything but All Christmas four years ago, untill the current format, which may have already peaked.

perhaps another ethnic station or church group taking over

Oh boy... why bother. Back to the mail room for you.

But remember - Fresh is "not like the OLD Lite"! ;D

I just pulled up the monthly 25-54 trends from the beginning of the year. She's pretty consistent.

The smart thing to do would be to look at the trends from the begining of LAST year to see how she compares with the previous jock.....comapring this years performace Jan thru July with last years Jan thru July.,

The smarter thing would be to make sure you don't overreact, give any changes the chance to take hold. A new direct competitor will almost always cause ripples & waves in the listening. The dumbest thing WLTW can do is knee-jerk responses to radio hacks on boards critiquing every breath they take.

In other words....no answer.

'No answer' to what?

Deliah has incredible talent! As much as some people dislike her, she is very successful and very talented and thus why her ratings are consistently decent.

It's all a matter or opinion. You seem to really like her. I think she's dreadful. You should hear her trainwreck on KBIG in Los Angeles. It's awful.

Here's the neat part, calguy- you are not part of her target audience. She's after women 25-54.

No, I'm not Oldies Cat, however I've been in radio since the 70's, a lot of that time in AC radio and I think I know "good" radio when I hear it. I don't hear it when I listen to Delilah. Her show on KBIG is a mish-mash of mainstream AC hits with up-tempo dance mixes, it's awful and sounds VERY out of place on the station. Plus, she goes on way too long about herself, not what I think a lovesongs style show should be about. I feel that it should be about the listener. But that's "my" opinion. By the way, I've used the "you're not the target audience/demo" line myself, and I don't think it applies here, but you have a right to say what you want.
